The power and spin "perks" are stupid anyway...watching a guy land a ball on the green and having the thing turn 90 degrees to the right or left always struck me as really dumb....I think it's part of the reason the online score in tourny's are so ridiculous. It's something I wish they would get rid of all together. It's one thing to intentionally put back spin on the ball, which is fine...it's another to have it spin right or left.
It's not a complete ban, however. You can use power/spin on the Masters Moments mode. I think I used it on the Par 3 course when using my character in quickplay mode too but I'm not 100% sure about that one.
So money and corporate demands are now dictating and controlling our sports gaming experiences. Sad and pathetic yes, but not really all that new. I don't believe the MLB allows developers to include a "charging the mound" feature in any MLB game, for example. And EA is restricted in what they can program into Madden as well.

Agreed 100%! I will not play with anyone who uses this. If we could spin the ball or control it after we hit it, we would all be PGA pros. To each their own but in a sports game, this has to be the biggest cheat ever! I play on Tour Pro but never use the focus or power or whatever, it is so non-sim and kid like to me.

I hate these features with a PASSION, however you would be shocked to find out how many TW console users play with those features instead of the tougher difficulty levels with more simulation like features. It is something like 70% to 30% arcade versus simulation. Personally, I would love to strangle whoever put those features in the game years ago as they are an embarrassment to the game of Golf, especially PGA TOUR Golf....

That is shocking, and sad lol! I wouldn't even feel right if I used them! It is the most unrealistic thing ever to me and I played a few guys online using it and beat them without using it the whole round. I told them they had to play a round with me where they couldn't use it and I beat them all by 20+ strokes. I have never used it as long as it has been in the game. It instantly pulls any simulation aspect out of the game!!

Win at all costs mentality I guess. I wish the online tourny's were stripped of those features and they had some sort of ranking system to group you with similar type players. In other words, it's next to impossible to compete with someone using Tiger Woods and all the spin and power features when you're using your custom built guy with 50%-60% on all his attributes and you don't use the spin and power features. He fires a 56 and on a good round you shoot a 65...it makes playing the online tournys (which I think are cool features when all things are even) pointless. It should group you based on how good the player is you're playing with instead of putting everyone in a pool together.
I disagree about the tougher difficulties being more "sim." In real life, you can "power up" by swinging extra hard. I understand that 100% is the maximum you can swing, but i think anyone who plays golf understands that sometimes you go after it a little more than a normal 100%. You also can control how much spin you put on shots. I don't like being able to change the direction of the spin, but you should be able to hit a low spinner or a high shot that doesn't have a ton of spin on it. The higher difficulties are actually more sim, they are just a different kind of difficulty. The higher difficulties should require you to pick pre shot the amount of spin and "power up" you are trying to pull off and adjust the precision required to pull them off.

If you only drive the ball 275 in real life, you only hit the ball 275. You can swing as hard as you like, but you aren't going to get a) good contact more times than not, and b) 25 yards more on a drive. You may, with you hardest, best contacted swing hit the ball 10 more yards on a drive. And no way are you going to do be able to do that consistently.
And rangerrick is right, you can control the back/top spin on the shot using the right thumbstick. Like I said, to each their own, I just like to have ANY sports game as sim as possible, and I think this game, on the higher difficulty levels, combined with never using the boosts, provides a good amount of simulation golf. But everyone has their own preferences
