Team Manitoba: An NHL 24 “IIHF” League

I’ll be doing an “IIHF” League with 24 teams. I’ll use the 22 countries in NHL 24, along with a created Team Russia and a created Team Manitoba(Manitoba decided to separate from Canada, why not?).

List of teams in the league:

    Season schedule:
1 game against each team(23 games total each team)
Games will be played/simmed in playoff mode on NHL 24

    Standings:
3 point system; 3 points for Regulation Win, 2 points for Overtime Win, 1 point for Overtime Loss, 0 points for Regulation Loss

    Playoffs:
Top 16 teams make playoffs, single game elimination each round

    Game Rules:
    No touch icing
    Continuous OT for every game
No Injuries(don’t think I can do injuries in playoff mode)

This league will have future tournament qualifying implications as well:

    4Nations Faceoff 2025:
The 4 teams in the semi finals will qualify for 4Nations(to be played on NHL 25)

    Olympics 2026 Qualifying:
Italy automatically qualifies as host, the 8 teams in the quarterfinals will also automatically qualify for the Olympics*(to be played on NHL 26)
The next best 12 teams will play a qualifying tournament, 3 groups of 4^(to be played on NHL 25). The winner of each group qualifies for the Olympics
*If Italy is one of the 8 teams in the quarterfinals, the highest ranked Round of 16 loser will automatically qualify
^If Italy is one of the next best 12 teams, the team ranked 21st in the league standings will take their place

    Manitoba Jerseys and Lineup:

*I see they got Stone as Captain, I’ll be switching that and giving it to Toews, Stone as an Assistant Captain.

With a team rating of 85 OVR, that has Manitoba sitting with the 7th highest rating of all the teams. Making quarterfinals is a reasonable goal, the top 4 teams (USA, Sweden, Canada, Russia) are all 97 OVR or higher, so that’ll be a struggle beating those teams

Same here!!! I'm sure you are a native Manitobian so that makes sense, but would have loved to see a Team Canada West, Team Ontario, Team Quebec, and Team Atlantic.

Yep, Winnipeg native(Go Jets!). I did a tournament a few years back creating teams for all the provinces (maritime provinces I combined to one team). This time around, just did Manitoba, partly lack of time and partly laziness

                  Week 3: vs Slovenia

Manitoba scores 3 goals in the 1st, then cruises to a 5-2 win over Slovenia to keep their perfect record, claiming all 9 possible points in the first 3 games. Jonathan Toews lead the way with a 3 point game for Manitoba.

                  Other Week 3 Scores:

Korea with the first upset of the year, taking down Slovakia in double OT, which was also the first OT game of the year.

                    Week 4: @ Denmark

After a scoreless 1st, Martinook got Manitoba on the board with a power play goal. Domi followed up with a goal of his own in the 2nd period. Denmark got the game within 1 twice, but Manitoba was able to hold on for their 4th straight win.

                    Other Week 4 Scores:

Latvia’s Balinskis scored with 15 seconds left in the game to snag the full 3 points over Great Britain.

                      Week 5: vs Finland

Stone got the scoring kicked off for Manitoba in the first. After 2 goals by the Finns, Toews ties it up at 2 after 2. Then the wheels come falling off for Manitoba. 2 bad giveaways in front of their own net and an own goal leads to 5 Finnish goals in the 3rd to hand Manitoba their first loss of the year.

                      Other Week 5 Scores:

Germany pulls away in the 3rd for a big win against Czechia.

Canada falls flat in Latvia, getting crushed 6-1 for the biggest shock of the year so far

Vasilevskiy is the highest rated at 93OVR, he’s the starter. Shesterkin is backup at 92OVR, and Sorokin is #3 at 92OVR also. Just loaded at goalies!

                            Week 6: @ Sweden

A nice passing play on the power play ended with Mika Zibanejad one-timing the puck home to open the scoring for Sweden in the first. Filip Forsberg would score in the second off a big rebound from James Reimer, extending the lead to 2-0. After Travis Sanheim scored for Manitoba to make it 2-1, Erik Karlsson scored a late 3rd period goal to give Sweden a 3-1 win.

                            Other Week 6 Scores:

France beat Germany 5-3 in Germany, the surprise of the week.

Ukraine defeats Poland in double OT, as both teams get their first points of the season

Kolesar and Jarvis both scored 2 goals in the first period, giving Manitoba a 4-0 lead. Italy would respond with 2 goals to make it 4-2, but Geekie would score for Manitoba to put the game away, 5-2.

                              Other Week 7 Scores:
