Toronto Maple Leafs Video Diary (NHL 04)

Since the real Toronto Maple Leafs don’t look like they’re going to the NHL playoffs, it’s time to turn my attention to the chances of my NHL 2004 PC Toronto Maple Leafs dynasty winning the Stanley Cup.

This is a dynasty report with a twist. Rather than start fresh, we’re simply going to check in with my dynasty already in progress because after 380 games I’m not starting a new dynasty. We’ll be starting this report with the 61st game of my fourth season.

Let’s start with a report from Leafs TV.

Re: Toronto Maple Leafs Video Diary (NHL 04)

Leafs TV Reporter Question: Why are you doing this?
GM bhurst Answer: Because it’s winter and there’s nothing else to do in Canada but play hockey and video games and wait for spring.
Q: Why NHL 2004?
A: It’s probably the best NHL game for the PC.
Q: Why not NHL 2008 for Next Gen?
A: This is going to be a video diary since most Leafs fans haven’t seen the real team score more than four goals in ages. It’s pretty easy to take video from NHL PC 2004 and print out stats.
Q: What are your settings?
A: Difficult. Nine minute periods.
Q: Why didn’t you start your dynasty from the beginning like a normal person?
A: I’ve already completed three seasons and invested more than 400 games in my dynasty. I’m not starting from scratch.
Q: Are you simming games or playing them?
A: I play them.
Q: You must be single.
A: Yep.
Q: How many times have you won the Stanley Cup before this fourth season?
A: Zero.
Q: How many times have you won the President’s Trophy?
A. Zero.
Q: You must really suck.
A: I tuned the sliders from the start to make it tough and realistic. But yeah maybe I’m not that good.
Q: Give us some background. How bad have you sucked the past three seasons?
A: Here’s our past three year’s results:

Photobucket
Q: Holy cow! That first season was a disaster!
A: Yes, it was. But that second season we made 35.1 million in profit for ownership. We all know that’s what the NHL is all about.
Q: What happened to the all Leafs who were part of that, er, glorious, 15-win season.
A: Almost all of them are long gone. Over the past four seasons we’ve made trades, signed free agents, released players and drafted horribly.
A: Mats Sundin, Tomas Kaberle and Darcy Tucker are still on the team from the 2003-04 season. Somehow Aki Berg has survived the purgings. At this point, the rest of the team would have to go down in a fiery plane crash for Berg to get on the ice. We’ll show you the roster at a later date.
Q: So how is this season going?
A: We got off to a horrendous 3-6 start and we were only 13-14-0-1 on Dec. 10, 2006. However, we’ve completely turned it around, winning 16 of our last 17. Right now we’re 37-21-0-2 for 76 points.
Q: So is this going to be the year the Leafs are going to win everything?
A: The President’s Trophy appears to be out of reach. The one game we lost out of the last 17 was to Ottawa. Ottawa is 49-8-0-6 for 104 points.
Q: Any inspiration for your dynasty?
A: Yeah, Matt10 does a great job with his reports. The format he uses is really cool.
Q: Thanks for your time.
A. My pleasure.

Good luck! It's nice to see some chises from older games. In my opinion, some of the older games are better than today's games, even in the present day.

Looks like you've had a tough couple of seasons as well.
