Re: Chicago Blackhawks (NHL '09)

Hawks give call to Beach

CHICAGO - The Chicago Blackhawks have called up yet another recent 1st round pick, as Kyle Beach will make his NHL debut on January 1st against the Detroit Red Wings in the now annual Winter Classic.

Beach, who was taken with the 11th pick in the 2007 NHL Annual Entry draft, put up 32 points in 38 games with the Rockford Ice Hogs, and was a team leading +14. Denis Savard will play the rookie with Martin Havlat and Dustin Byfuglien on the team's second line.

Every Blackhawk 1st rounder from the past six years is now on the squad, as Beech joins Patrick Kane, Jack Skille, Jonathan Toews, Cam Barker, and Brent Seabrook. Anton Babchuk, who was drafted in the 1st round in 2001, is the last first rounder to not be on the team currently. In fact, with the callup, the scratching of Craig Adams, Chicago has all of three players dressed who are over 30, two of which are the goalies. Brent Sopel, at 31, is the only skater who is over that age.

To stay at the roster limit, the Blackhawks sent placed Ben Eager on waivers. Eager was claimed by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
