Re: Ottawa Senators Dynasty (NHL 09)

According to the stats, they are 3rd from the bottom in the East, which quite frankly, is pretty accurate.
It seems you are a much better GM then the current on the Lightning. I hope you can make it to the playoffs!

Ottawa Back On Track

Philips recorded 2 helpers in the shutting out of Edmonton.

Highlights v. Calgary
1. Zetterberg finds open ice and opens up scoring.
2. Kovalchuck fires a beautiful top shelfer off of Alfredsson.
3. Ignila scores to make it 3-1.
4. Kovalchuck scores a shorthanded goal; the puck hit the post and bounced in.
5. Foligno shoves in the corner of the net with 1 minute remaining.

Highlights v. Edmonton
1. Zetterberg scores off of a one-timer from Schubert.
2. Kovalchuck scores another shorthanded goal; he has by far the most in the league, about 14-ish.
3. Foligno scores a one-timer off of Hedjuk.
4. Meszaros' slap shot goes in because Roloson can't see through the screen.
5. Elliot made some great saves to post another shutout.

GM's Thoughts: We needed those two wins after the losses we suffered. Plus, we got revenge over two of the four teams that beat us this season. Elliot looked sharp again, but Auld will start the next game to give him a rest. The defense did its job and the offense piled on the goals. The game should have been 4-1 and 3-0 respectively, but we got a last minute goal in each. This is the way we need to play to maintain our high ranking.

The Lightning have made some dumb moves in the past, which may have contributed to this downward spiral. (i.e. trading Boyle and Richards). I think they need to get a few more guys, like a top 6 forward and a top 2 d-man. They also need to play smarter.

Re: Ottawa Senators Dynasty (NHL 09)

I think trading Dan Boyle and Brad Richards were actually good decisions for the Lightning if you really think about it. Well maybe not Dan Boyle, since Matt Carle is on Philadelphia now but Brad Richards was a good decision. Richards salary would just get higher and higher as the years went by and soon enough the Lightning can't afford him and they lose a quality player for nothing. Now if you look at the trade, the Lightning were in desperate need for a consistent goalie, Mike Smith was such a beast when he got to Tampa Bay, he wouldn't have got any ice time in Dallas while playing back-up to Marty Turco. Jeff Halpern is okay too. The Dan Boyle thing I guess kind of kicked the Lightning while they were down.
