Re: Ottawa Senators Dynasty (NHL 09)

Ottawa Dominates Dallas, Ventilates Niittymaki

Milan making the most of his playtime with Zetterberg.

Highlights v. Dallas
1. Volchenkov takes advantage of an over aggressive powerplay and dumps it up to Kovalchuck, who scores.
2. Hedjuk scores on the powerplay.
3. Lehtinen takes advantage of two defenders behind the net and scores on a powerplay.
4. Zetterberg walks right in and scores. Twice.
5. The second time was on an empty net.

Highlights v. Philadelphia
1. Philips intercepts a pass and shoves it to Vermette, who scores.
2. Kovalchuck dominates
Niittymaki 1 on 1.
3. Heatley scores off of a beautiful one-timer from Setoguchi.
4. Auld makes some great saves to propell him to a shutout.
5. Nothing happens in the 3rd period. Really.

GM's Thoughts: I think we are getting better at analysing the weaknesses of our opponents. For example, Dallas was reluctant to play the boards and Philly was ofter overaggresive; turnovers led to breakaways and 2/3 on 1s galore. Elliot played good, Auld played the best game of the season, getting a shutout and an assist, along with some great saves and the offense was in the zone. The defense wasn't spectacular, but it got the job done, intecepting passes, blocking shots, ect. Tonight we play #1 in the west Calgary. By the way, Philly was #2 in the east. It could be foreshadowing something...

Stats
v. Dallas (4-1)
Shots: 30-14 Ottawa

Hedjuk, Spezza and Heatley assisting (PPG)
Lehtinen, Modano assisting (PPG)

v. Phillidelphia (5-0)
Shots: 15-7 Ottawa
Hits: 8-17 Phillidelphia
Goals: Vermette, Philips assisting
Zetterberg, Foligno and Auld assisting
Kovalchuck, Alfredsson and Meszaros assisting
Heatley, Setoguchi and Volchenkov assisting

Calgary Vetoes Ottawa's Comeback Attempts

Auld's occasional poor play came back to haunt Ottawa.

Highlights v. Calgary
1. Moss takes advantage a hole in the passing lanes,
Cammalleri then one-times it in.
2. Bertuzzi effortlessly slaps a goal past Auld.
3. Prust scores twice early in the 2nd to make it 5-0.
4. Alfredsson gets Ottawa on the board after deking out Kiprusoff.
5. Kipprusoff denies last minute attempt by Kovalchuck to tie it up.

GM's Thoughts: Alright I'll admit it, I knew the streak had to come to an end eventually. After playing a great game in Pillidelphia, Auld just had a bad day. Either way, Elliot will be starting against Vancouver tomorrow. Its not all Auld's fault; the defense was underwhelming. The only reason they didn't score in the third period was because we were dominating in their zone. We pulled Auld, but their defense held and Kipprusoff stopped a one-timer and then caught the rebound. That resulted in a final score of 5-4. We just have to move on and play better tomorrow. I've also seen us become less gitty over the course of the last few games, which is a side effect of all the winning. We need to play harder, check more and put more pressure on their scorers.

Stats
Shots: 23-22 Ottawa
Hits: 21-27 Calgary
Goals: Cammelleri, Moss and Lombardi assisting
Bertuzzi, Moss and Aucoin assisting
Primeau, Phaneuf and Ignila assisting
Prust, Sarich and Phaneuf assisting
Prust, Yelle assisting
Alfredsson, Neil and Setoguchi assisting
Laperriere, Spezza and Meszaros assisting
Heatley, Ruutu and Meszaros assisting
Foligno, Philips and Zetterberg assisting
