Ottawa Senators Dynasty (NHL 09)

This is my first attempt at writing a dynasty, so I hope its good...

Bryan Murray Fired!

In a move that seemed to be months in the making, after the terrible end to the 2007-2008 season, and some questionable moves made during the off-season, GM Byran Murray was fired and replaced by a well known GM, Leon Feltus. This may seem unorthodox, due to his up and down history, but after last year's debacle, anything can be better.

"I have a three part plan for fixing the Senators," said Feltus. "First off, I need to split up the Spezza/Heatly/Alfredsson line, to create more depth in the lines." Two, I need to solve the goalie problem and finally, I hope to fix the defense."

Re: Ottawa Senators Dynasty (NHL 09)

Trades:

Ottawa
Martin Gerber
Mike Fisher

Atlanta

Ilya Kovalchuck

Ottawa

Shean Donovan
2nd Round Draft Pick

San Jose
Devin Setoguchi

Ottawa signs Mike Brodeur for a 2 year, 1.4 M deal.
Ottawa
brings Brian Elliot up from the minors.
Ottawa signs Duvie Westcott to a 2 year, 2.4 M deal.
Ottawa sends Luke Richardson down to the minors.

Lines:

Heatley – Spezza – Setoguchi

Kovalchuck – Vermette – Alfredsson

Foligno – Kelly – Neil

Robitaille – Ruutu – Lapointe

Scratch- McAmmond

Westcott – Volchenkov

Meszaros – Smith

Phillips – Schubert

Note- The GM took over from Murray after the playoffs last season, and did not make all the same deals he did. Therefore, the lineups will be missing some current players (i.e. Kuba).

GM’s Thoughts- Moving Gerber was a tough choice, as he has been a great goalie in the past. As of late, however, he has not been playing well, and could probably use a change of scenery. Kovalchuck is a great addition; having four top notch players spread around two lines gives us depth we did not have prior to this. As for Setoguchi, I believe he has more potential than Donovan. As for Richardson, he has been playing bad in practice and just rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe some time in the minors will straighten that out.

(Game 1 vs. Pittsburgh up tonight/tomorrow)

Fleury A Brick Wall

GM Thoughts- We won 2-0, but it didn't go as expected. Fleury stood on his head tonight, and blocked all of our shots but 1. Coming into this, I hoped for lines 1 and 2 to fill him full of holes. But it was the defense that was able to score. Its impressive but at the same time its disappointing. Alex Alud played well; he shut them out. Overall, we dominated the puck, it seemed Fleury was the only one playing tonight for the pens. We also need to be more agressive, they were dominating us physically.

Stats
Shots: 36-9 Ottawa
Hits: 29-14 Pittsburgh
Goals- Smith, Meszaros and Vermette assisting
Kelly,
Foligno assisting (empty net)

Back to Back Wins Over Pittsburgh

Jason Smith scores again in his second straight game.

GM's thoughts- I think its good to start of the season with back to back wins over Pittsburgh, eh? Although we won 2-1, I think we played better overall against an awake Pittsburgh team. Kelly and Foligno have great chemistry together; they manage to keep finding each other. The only thing which remains is for the top 2 lines to begin to produce. If it doesn't happen, I'm gonna have to make some changes.

Stats
Shots: 25-19 Ottawa
Hits: 20-28 Ottawa
Goals: Smith, Lapointe assisting (SHG)
Foligno, Kelly assisting
Fedotenko, Sykora and Satan assisting
