PAVELSKI LIKELY OUT FOR TOURNAMENT
The United States squad got some bad news following their 3-1 loss to Sweden in their World Championships opener. Center Joe Pavelski, who left the game during the 1st period after being checked by Sweden defenseman Johan Akerman and didn't return, likely won't be suiting up for the USA again due to a sore knee that is projected to take 4 weeks to recover from.

"We'll see how things go, but the doctors aren't too optimistic," Pavelski said. "It's really disappointing because I love representing my country and after about 10 minutes and a few shifts that may not be possible anymore for this tournament."

Pavelski added, "We may have lost to Sweden, but there is a lot of hockey yet to be played and I'm confident that these guys can pull it together with or without me. I just hope it's with me."

Pavelski was a major part of the United States' squad at the World Championships as he was centering their top line with Dustin Brown and Jason Blake. The Wisconsin native was entering the tournament coming off his best professional season with the San Jose Sharks where he had 59 points in 80 games.

Colin Stuart of the Atlanta Thrashers will dress in Pavelski's place. Line shuffling is sure to ensue as Stuart isn't a centerman. T.J. Oshie, who was playing right wing against Sweden, is expected to slide into one of the center spots.

good for montoya...he's probably my favorite goalie prospect in the NHL, even though he's kind of too old to be a "prospect" anymore.

I also love him because he initially stole my dream--he's the first goalie of cuban descent in the NHL--i'm half cuban, and am american as well.

on top of THAT, he got to play for the NY Rangers, which is another one of my epic dreams that will never happen, lol.

also, sucks about pavelski.

i was wondering "where's lundqe!' and then remembered this is the WC and not the olympics
