Practice

I got to practice early, and just I as I was about to skate onto the ice, my coach, Bob Woods asked if he could talk to me and I followed him into the hallway.

Panic ran through me. Did I do something wrong? Am I being demoted? I didn't play that bad last game. I didn't know what to say to coach Woods, so I just stood there and waited for him to start talking.

"You know, Clarke, I've been thinking," he said, "you've been playing good for us lately."

"Thank you coach," I said.

"But we feel like we need more out of you," he continued.

"I'll try my best."

"No, it's not that. You need better linemates. That's why I'm putting you on the second line."

All of my panic slipped away and was replaced by sheer joy. I tried to hide my excitement and gave a modest, "Thank you coach. I'll do my best."

"I know you will," he said. "Now get out there and start skating laps!"

Now I would be playing with Chris Borque and Andrew Gordon. Practicing with them, they're both very skilled and I'm looking forward to playing with them. I've even started to build some chemistry with them so far.

This is another step towards making the NHL. I hope I don't blow it!!!!
