San Jose, CA-Jaromir Jagr had two goals in the second period with the eventual game winner to lead the Sharks to victory over Calgary. "Not to brag, but I did a good job in the draft, mostly because of the room teams like Calgary gave me. But I just put the team out there, they're the ones who win the games." He commented that "Jags is definitely one of the leaders of this team. Off the ice, he's a funny, charismatic, and friendly man. On the ice, he's a warrior, giving it everything he got, while at the same time a magician, manipulating everything around him."

San Jose resumes play against the Blackhawks Monday night at home.

The Sharks accumulated 20 total individual points and 23 total penalty minutes in a game that was exciting and fast paced. The first period began rather slowly, but it was the second that started the frenzy. Chicago's Courtnell opened the scoring thirty-five seconds in, and from then on it was all San Jose. Jagr and Kariya both had pairs of goals that began in the second and were topped off in the third, and Peca assisted on four goals throughout the game and scored one of his own towards the end of the second period. Although Dafoe gave up 7 goals, he played a fantastic game, stopping forty-seven of the fifty-four shots that came his way, many of them rebounds and one timers that he barely had time to reposition for. In the third period, Cory Cross got a high sticking, San Jose's third infraction of that nature, and Jamie Langenbrunner was charged with elbowing. Late in the game, Luke Richardson took a charge at Adam Oates, injuring him and receiving a major and game misconduct for spearing. "Obviously, it was unacceptable. He should never do that. With that in mind, they took some cheap shots at our players in the middle of the third and the team felt necessary to fight back. They weren't going to stand there." Of the entire first line scoring at least four points, Dellapina commented, "It's fantastic.
