Forward's Preview:
This years offensive strategy's are different from past years. This years Canucks shall be more aggressive than ever before bringing speed and quickness to the ice each and every night giving the opposing teams defense havoc every night.
The Canuck forward lines have changed a bit. The first line including Henrik and Daniel Sedin and Alex Burrows will remain in tact for the first few games of the season. These players together generate alot off cycles and going to the net. After the second line, this is where the changes for this years Canucks start to show themselves.
Nicknamed the "speed demons" Mason Raymond, Ryan Kesler, and 16th overall 2006 draft pick Michael Grabner shall put their speed to use as they shall generate shots by utilizing their speed and beating defenders by sheer speed alone. With Kesler's shot there should be no problem of not scoring goals on this line. These players have great chemistry and have amazing skills of seeing the ice and knowing where each other are.
The third line consists of players who have both grit and amazing hockey smarts. Steve Bernier, Kyle Wellwood, and Michael Samuelsson shall start on the third line on opening night. Kyle Wellwood's future with the Canucks is still uncertain but will try to start his season strong and try to prove that he belongs with the Canucks.
The fourth line for the Canucks is the checking line. With Darcy Hordichuk, Ryan Johnson, and 11th overall 2009 draft pick Kevin Gardener who has gotten the chance to play his first ever regular season NHL hockey game. Johnson is a key player for the Canucks as he's not only a checker, but a key penalty killer and faceoff man. Hordichuk is the usual enforcer. Gardener had really nowhere else to go but look for great things from Gardener as the season unfolds.
Defense Preview:
The Canucks defensive strategies remain the same. Collapse on the goalie and give no rebounds.
The Defensive core for the Canucks remains the same but Kevin Bieksa is now a Nashville Predator and Josh Georges is now a Canuck. Starting as the number one pairing are Alexander Edler and Willie Mitchell. Both these defensemen are amazing shutdown men who will shut down any top forward on any team. The second pairing consists of Sami Salo and Christien Ehrhoff, both talented defensemen with amazing shots. The third pairing consists of the newly acquired Josh Georges and Shane O'Brien.
Goalie Preview:
Roberto Luongo shall start and remain the Canucks number one goalie with Andrew Raycoft backing him up. Luongo is expected to start and play 55-65 games this year and Andrew Raycroft playing the rest. Luongo has been working on this rebound control all summer as requested by GM Alex Wenger and this will be one thing to look for this following season. Andrew Raycroft hasn't had good season since being the rookie goalie of the year, but hopes to make a comeback with the Vancouver Canucks.
Behind the team: Coaches and GM's:
Mike Gillis was fired this summer and replaced by rookie GM Alex Wenger. Wenger has proven himself worthy and shown he is capable GM with the smarts to make a team great. Alain Vigneault got a contract extension and remains the bench boss for the Canucks.
The Canucks shall do great things this year....
GO CANUCKS GO!
