No Limits To The Cup, A Hockeytown Be a GM Dynasty

While I wanted to actually do a Detroit Viper dynasty the logo's that you get in created a team just didn't come out right for the team. The name was in the game which was cool but it just didn't work out so I am going back to the boys at the JLA since I have now finished the custom soundtrack that I wanted to use for the game.

Next post will be a review of the NHL Draft and any free agent signing that they team did before we start the pre-season.

SUPRISING TRADE DURING DRAFT DAY FOR WINGS.

(Detroit, Mi) - The Detroit Redwings suprised many during the first round of the NHL Entry Draft before even making their first selection. The Detroit Redwings traded away 35 year old Defenseman Brian Rafalski to the Columbus BlueJackets for the 30 year old LW Kristian Huselius.

GM Ken Holland spoke about that trade after the first round and said that while the deal was a hard one to do it was need to both free up cap space for the upcoming season and to give the wings and extra LW on their roster to balance things out.

The Redwings then proceeded to fill the void left from the trade with Columbus to draft Defenseman Bryan Bryne from Canada with the 29th pick overall in the first round.

The draft day selections for the wings also threw many off as their first four pick of the entry draft came from Canada with the last round pick coming from Switzerland.

"With what we have roster wise now we will look over the free agency list to see if there are any "Diamonds in the Rough" that we may believe we could use this season but right now we are happy with our roster as a whole." Said GM Ken Holland.

The Redwings now ready themselfs for Spring Training in Traverse City Michigan before heading home to the JLA for their first Pre-Season Game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sept. 16th.

WINGS DOWN FLYERS 3 - 2 TO OPEN PRE-SEASON

(Detroit, Mi) - Todd Burtuzzi netted the game winning goal late the 3rd period to lift the Redwings over the Philadelphia Flyers at the Joe Louis Arena 3 - 2 tonight.

The Flyers started the scoring off when Braydon Coburn found the back of the net on a rebound shot to give the Flyers a 1 - 0 lead at the end of the 1st period.

The Wings got the wheels rolling in the second period though when Tomas Holmstrom took a nice pass across the slot from Todd Bertuzzi and banked it off the blocker of goal tender Ray Emery to tie the score at 1 - 1. Just minutes later Nicklas Lidstrom picked up a rebound at the side of the net and put it home after a wrist shot from Nick Kronwall to give the Wings their first lead of the game at the 19:02 mark to make it 2 - 1.

That lead however was short lived as the Flyers stole a pass and went back the other way 2 on 1 and Jeff Carter was able to find the back of the net to tie the game at 2 - 2 going into the third period.

The Wings though would wind up getting the game winner when a shot from the stick of Jonathan Ericssen was defelcted by Todd Bertuzzi through the 5 hole of Ray Emery to give the wings the win 3 - 2 in Regulation.

The Redwings now take 2 days off before hosting the New York Rangers at the Joe Louis Arena with a face off time of 7:30 pm.

Sweet a Detroit franchise! Man getting rid of Rafalski is a tough move. He's a solid D-man but I can see the need to free up cap space. Huselius is a good fit for the Wings system though. Good luck with your franchise!

The Rangers started the scoring when Ales Kotalik scored at the 11:18 mark of the first to give the Rangers 1 - 0 lead. The Rangers expanded the lead to 2 - 0 when Chris Drury fired one from the slot and behind Redwings goalie Chris Osgood.

WINGS COLLASPE IN 3RD, LOSS IN OT 4 - 3

(Detroit, Mi) - The Detroit Redwings figured out their power outtage on the powerplay but forgot to show up in the third period and gave up 3 goals in the third and the game winner in overtime as the Sabers down the Wings at home 4 - 3.

The Wings started the scoring on the powerplay when Todd Bertuzzi put the rebound home to give Detroit the 1 - 0 lead. Just minutes later LW Kristian Huselius put home his first goal as a Detroit Redwing on a loose puck out in front of the net to put the Wings up 2 - 0 after the first period.

The Wings extended the lead to 3 - 0 after Pavel Datsyuk found a loose puck again on the doorstep that many thought was the almost end of the game but the Sabers came back in the 3rd.

Thomas Vanek netted 2 straight goals on the powerplay and then Jason Pominville added the game tying goal in the third and then got the game winner in OT to give the Sabers a 4 - 3 win against the Wings at the Joe Louis Arena.

The Wings now hit the road and travel to New York and Madison Square Garden to face off with the Rangers and a 7:30 pm face off.

WINGS RETURN THE FAVOR, SHUT OUT RANGERS 4 - 0

(New York City, NY) - The Detroit Redwings returned the favor of being shut out at the Joe Louis Arena tonight with a 4 - 0 shut out of the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Pavel Datsyuk got the scoring started with a power shot from the slot to at 1:13 mark of the first to give the wings a 1 - 0 lead. Midway through the first period the Wings suffered there first set back of the season when Johan Franzen went down to injury and did not return to the game.

The Redwings took advantage of the powerplay again for the second straight game in the second period as they went 2 of 4 with the man advantage. It started with Tomas Holmstrom's deflection of the Nicklas Kronwall shot from the point to give the Wings a 2 - 0 lead. later in the period Jason Williams stole the puck and fired a slap shot past the goaltender to make it 3 - 0.

Pavel Datsyuk finished the scoring much like he started the game in the slot by deflecting a shot from the point off the stick of Nicklas Lidstrom to make it 4 - 0.

The Redwings are now 2 - 1 - 0 - 1 on the pre-season and stay on the road to face off with the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wacovia Center in Downtown Philadelphia.
