Re: New Los Angeles Kings Dynasty(NHL10)

Doughty scores OT winner for Kings

(Dallas, TX) - In the first meeting between two division rivals, the
Dallas Stars were on the losing end as the Los Angeles Kings took the
2-1 win in overtime.

In a very defensively minded game, both the Kings and Stars looked to
keep the score low and not take unneccesary opportunities that would
give up a winning goal.

Loui Eriksson gave Dallas the lead in the first period with a
powerplay goal at 15:46 with Brad Richards and Jonathan Cheechoo
earning the assists.

During the first and second period, Dallas goaltender Marty Turco led
his team as he continued to hold the Kings from a tying goal.

But leading scorer Justin Williams wouldn't be kept of the scoreboard
with his tying goal in the third period on an unassisted powerplay
chance at 16:21.

With the Kings scoring the tying goal, both sides prepared to enter
the overtime period, but Los Angeles kept the pressure on the Stars
until the final whistle.

The third period ended in a shoving contest as Drew Doughty and Karlis
Skrastins met in the neutral zone and both were called for roughing
penalties and began the overtime period in the penalty box.

Jonathan Quick was quiet during the overtime period as Dallas only
took one shot at the Los Angeles goaltender, with the rest of the time
being taken up by the Kings and their offensive pressure.

Seconds after being let out of the penalty box, Drew Doughty and
Karlis Skrastins joined the game for both sides with the Kings still
holding the puck in the offensive zone.

Doughty took the screen position in front of Turco, giving fellow
defenseman Mark Popovic a chance to shoot.

The puck was deflected by Doughty's stick as he earned his second goal
of the season as the Kings dropped the Stars, 2-1.

Mark Popovic and Jack Johnson earned the assists for the goal at 3:01.

The Kings will return home after a four game road trip to host the
Dallas Stars for their second meeting of the year.

Turco gets revenge on Kings

Marty Turco being saved by the post.

(Los Angeles, CA) - After suffering a 2-1 loss on Monday night to the same team, the Dallas Stars were looking to exact some revenge against the Los Angeles Kings, hopefully to spark a fre under the team and move away from their 2-6 start of the season.

Marty Turco made 15 saves tonight as he earned his first shutout of the season, while Loui Eriksson scored late in the third period as the Stars managed something no other team has been able to do so far, which was shutout the Kings 1-0.

Eriksson scored at 17:55 with Jonathan Cheechoo and Mike Modano earning the assists, both Eriksson and Cheechoo also earned points against the Kings on Monday night.

Despite having great scoring opportunities, Los Angeles wasn't able to come up with a tying goal, the best chance of which came from Justin Williams seconds after the goal, hitting the post and bouncing right off.

"Strategically, I think we played a sound game" said Kings head coach Terry Murray. "I have nothing to be mad or upset about besides the score, we played a good game and I can't be anything but proud of the guys for the effort tonight."

This marks the second loss of the season for the Kings, who have had the best start to the season in some time, going 7-1-0 before playing the Stars tonight.

Jonathan Quick was also impressive in goal for the Kings, making 11 saves and earning the third star of the game for his efforts despite the loss.

Quick will look to bounce back from this loss as he will lead the Los Angeles Kings as they will face another division rival, the Phoenix Coyotes.

Selanne scores as Kings drop Coyotes

(Phoenix, AZ) - Still coping with the surprising draft day trade that
sent Teemu Selanne to his former teams biggest rival, it looked like
he was finally coming to terms with it as he scored his first goal for
the Kings as they dominated the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-0.

This also marks Jonathan Quick's fifth shutout of the season, and
ninth of his career.

"He is just playing like a man possessed right now" said Kings captain
Dustin Brown about Quick's performance.

"He's been playing great for us and it shows with the shutouts. It
also shows how well we are playing as a team, and how we can rely on
each other."

Ryan Smyth and Drew Doughty each earned a goal and assist in tonight's
game, starting off with a first period scoring spree for Los Angeles.

Matt Greene usually is known for his defensive skills but this time
around put his name on the scoreboard as he tallied his first goal of
the season on a shorthanded play at 6:32 for the 1-0 lead.

Fellow penalty killers Michal Handzus and Denis Gauthier earned the
assists for the goal.

Drew Doughty added another for the Kings at 10:51 with his third of
the season and earning the assists were Ryan Smyth and Justin Williams.

Selanne finally put a tally under his goal column for the season a
minute later at 11:52 with his first of the year and first in a Kings
uniform.

With a very comfortable lead going into the second period, it seemed
like Los Angeles took the foot off the pedal as they kept the same
lead until the third period.

Drew Doughty earned his second point of the game as he assisted along
with Anze Kopitar on the fourth goal for Los Angeles from Ryan Smyth
at 14:18.

For the rest of the game, Jonathan Quick and the Los Angles Kings held
the Phoenix Coyotes and claimed the win, 4-0.

Quick earns No. 6

(Los Angeles, CA) - For the sixth time this season, an opposing team has
been shutout by Jonathan Quick and the Los Angeles Kings.

For the second time this season, the Columbus Blue Jackets have been
shutout by Jonathan Quick.

Their previous meeting saw the Blue Jackets lose 2-0 about a week ago
in Columbus.

This time around, the Jackets traveled to Los Angeles to a packed
Staples Center and faced the hottest team in the NHL.

The scoring run started in the second period as Ryan Smyth scored his
fifth goal of the season with Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson earning
the assists at 17:49 in the second period.

Mark Popovic played like a forward for his goal as he took a long pass
from Jonathan Quick for the 2-0 lead in the third period at 5:55.

Kings leading scorer Justin Williams scored his seventh of the year on
an unassisted play at 13:16 for the 3-0 lead over the Blue Jackets.

Captain Dustin Brown also got on the scoreboard with his goal,
assisted by Mark Popovic at 17:12 for the 4-0 lead and later the win
as the Los Angeles Kings held the Blue Jackets from scoring for the win.

But the goals weren't the only highlights of the game as Kings
defenseman Rob Scuderi and Rafi Torres squared up for a fight in the
first period, while the third period saw the unlikely matchup of
current King Alexander Frolov and former King Sean Avery in a scuffle
which saw Avery hit the ice before Frolov.

Kopitar, Williams lead Kings past Sharks

(San Jose, CA) - The Los Angeles Kings haven't played this well in years.

Another dominating performance from the Southern California team added
another exclimation point to their amazing start and two points to
their first place position in the league.

The trio of Anze Kopitar, Justin Williams, and Drew Doughty led the
Kings to a 4-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, marking the Kings' third
straight win.

Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar teamed up for the first goal as Justin
Williams scored his eighth goal of the year at 4:18 of the first
period for the 1-0 lead.

Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov managed to hold the Kings scorers off
for the remainder of the first period and through the second period,
but broke down in the third period with Los Angeles scoring three in
the final period.

Anze Kopitar scored the first goal of the period at 2:54 with Jack
Johnson and Mark Popovic earning the assists.

Drew Doughty added his third of the year on the powerplay for the
3-0 lead for Los Angeles at 12:47.

But San Jose managed to get on the scoreboard and end goaltender
Jonathan Quick's shutout run as Vladimir Sobokta scored for the Sharks
to make it 3-1 and ease the defecit.

In last ditch effort, San Jose pulled Nabokov to add the extra
attacker but it backfired ad Jack Johnson and Anze Kopitar teamed up
for a one-two pass with Justin Williams scoring his second of the
night and ninth of the year at 19:49 for the 4-1 score.

With goal number nine, Williams is now tied for first place in goal
scoring in the NHL.

The Kings held off the Sharks for the final few second and won the
game, 4-1.

Re: New Los Angeles Kings Dynasty(NHL10)

Canucks drop Kings in shootout

(Los Angeles, CA) - For Anze Kopitar, it was a very short night.

Halfway through the first period he was given a game misconduct and
hit the locker room after being called for a slash on Vancouver
defenseman Shane O'Brien.

"It was an unfortunate decision for Kopitar to get, it was completely
unintentional and didn't need to receive that harsh of a penalty."
said head coach Terry Murray.

Losing Kopitar slowed down the Kings offense as other players took
turns to replace him, including Jarret Stoll and Michal Handzus with
the top lines.

In the second period, Ryan Smyth took the 1-0 lead for the Kings at
6:13 with Jarret Stoll and Matt Greene assisted on the sixth goal for
Smyth.

But at 19:10, Michael Grabner scored a powerplay goal to tie the game
up at 1-1, heading into the third period.

Former King Michael Cammalleri earned the assist in Grabner's goal.

The game continued with the 1-1 draw with neiter team really getting
an advantage or a legitimate scoring chance.

After the regulation buzzer sounded, the game continued to overtime,
but once again the game didn't find a winner and was sent to a shootout.

Los Angeles wasn't lucky as all of the three players selected for the
shootout were stopped by Roberto Luongo, while Michael Cammalleri and
Ryan Kesler put their shots past Jonathan Quick for the 2-1 win for
the Canucks over the Los Angeles Kings.
