~Welcome To BeanTown~ A Boston Bruins Dynasty (NHL10)

BRUINS LOOK TO AVENGE SECOND ROUND LOSS

CHARA, BERGERON, THOMAS, SAVARD LOOK TO WIN STANLEY CUP

Boston - When Scott Walker scored the overtime goal that carried the Carolina Hurricanes into the Eastern Conference Finals, it meant the end of the Boston Bruins successful season. After being 1st in the Eastern Conference, beating out the New Jersey Devils and the Washington Capitals, the Bruins looked poised for a deep playoff run.

First up, big rivalry between the Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. The year before the Montreal Canadiens were first in the Conference, while the Bruins leapt into 8th, the Habs quickly disposed of the Bruins. But this playoffs, the Bruins returned the favour.

Next up, the underdog Carolina Hurricanes, their first return to the playoffs since winning the Stanley Cup in 2006. Eric Staal and Cam Ward needed to be on their A game, which looked likely after they dismantled Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils in the first round.

But of course, we all know the outcome. Scott Walker winning the series for Carolina, before getting swept out in the conference finals by the eventual Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

On came the off-season. And out went Phil Kessel, traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, after failing to put up the points for the Bruins, and also to create some cap space. Maybe some space to make some moves in the near future.

Again, Marc Savard and Pactrice Bergeron will look to fuel the offense, Bergeron will need to be a leader and be ready to take on some punishment from opposing team defensemen, ecspecially now that tank defensemen Chris Pronger has joined the Philadelphia Flyers.

Zdeno Chara, the reigning Norris winner will need to continue playing on a high scale of play, and use his size to burn his name into opposing players sub-consious.

Tim Thomas will be looked at to be a difference maker, after winning the Vezina Trophy as top goaltender.

NHL GAME PREVIEW

WASHINGTON CAPITALS @ BOSTON BRUINS

Its hard enough to play a season opener, its a whole new squad on game day. But for the Boston Bruins, and ecspecially Zdeno Chara, they feel ready to beat any team. Ecspecially their first opponent.

The Boston Bruins face off against the Washington Capitals, watching Alexander Ovechkin and the high powered Capitals come into town. Zdeno Chara and the defensive corps of the Bruins will need to be more worried about playing rock solid defense then contributing on the offense.

Ovechkin's the NHL's best shooter, but he's not unbeatable, looking at Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Semi Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a 6-2 win for the Pens. Ovechkin got shutdown, even losing the puck leading to a Sidney Crosby goal.

If the Boston Bruins can re-enact the Penguins play there, they should be able to have a good chance of winning. But one player doesn't make the team, as the Capitals have shown.

Nicklas Backstrom, Alexander Semin and Mike Green are all extreme offensive contributers, Backstrom being the one feeding Ovechkin his passes, the Bruins will need to block off the passing lanes and lay the body on the Capitals first line.

Alexander Semin, unlike Ovechkin, hasn't become a premier player in the NHL in some critics minds, and without the able Sergei Fedorov feeding him passes, his point totals will drop this season, despite after Brenden Morrison and Mike Knuble joining the team. If the Bruins play they're cards right, Semin should be no problem.
