Well I know draft day is all about the actual draft but I am going to start with the trades. There were a bit of trades that happened but nothing really.

Winnipeg wins Season opener in VERY high scoring game.

The season opener was a magical night for Winnipeg fans all over the nation, this was the first time a NHL team based in Winnipeg were to play since 1996. It was also a VERY high scoring game for both teams. At the beginning of the game the annoucers said that it would be a goalies game with low scoring, that was not the case.

Winnipeg started strong as 2 minutes in Ethan Hart had a slapshot through traffic. This ended up being the first NHL goal of this franchise. It was assisted by Johnny Spezza and Patrick Smith. It would take over 10 minutes but LA would answer back when Micheal Handzus would tap in a rebound from Alex Semin shot. (I have no idea how Semin ended up in LA). It looked like the first would end 1-1 but Patrick Smith took a pass from Nick Ritt that ended up in the back of the net. Burns played good this period stopping 15/16 shots.

The second period started off like the first but in LA's favor as Dustin Brown would slap one past Burns. It would stay 2-2 until 12 minutes in Patrick Smith would slap his second of the game. 6 minute later after Jim Vandemeers penalty LA's goalie Jonathon Bernier would collapse. This allowed Ethan Hart to score a very easy goal. It was Winnipeg's first short handed goal of the season. On the same powerplay for LA, Semin would grab the rebound and bury it for the PP goal and his second point of the night. The period would end 4-3 in Winnipeg's favor.

The third period started off strong as 3 minutes in Patrick Smith would score on the power play to make it the first hat trick of this franchise. 3 minutes later Mathew Clark would add his own Powerplay goal. The game looked down for LA with 5 minutes left and down by 3, but Burnss would just collapse alowwing 3 goals in 2 and a half minutes. First Ryan Smyth, then Anze Kopitar, and then Justin Williams to make it 6-6 with 3 minutes to play. The score would remain 6-6 to send it to OT. Luckily 9 seconds in to Overtime Peter Blake would roof it from the faceoff circle of a nice shot. Winnipeg wins their first in this new franchise.
