Bio: Japan isn't known for having much of a presence in the NHL, but the sport is relevant there. Isamu started playing youth league from 7 years old and would play against 10-11 year olds in the youngest division. At the age of 16 he joined the Nikko Ice Bucks of the Asia League, playing there for the last 3 seasons. He was awarded the Young Guy of the Year award in his first season with the Ice Bucks. He also lead them to the 2009 Championship while earning Most Valuable Player honors.

Thrashers Select Japanese Defender, Isamu Sasaki

With the 6th pick in the 2009 NHL draft the Atlanta Thrashers chose Japanese defender Isamu Sasaki. Sasaki is presumed to be the best defender in this years draft, though some scouts are skeptical as he has only played hockey in Asia.

Thrashers first game is October 3rd against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
