GOMEZ TURNS CLUTCH AGAINST FLAMES

Calgary, Alberta - Despite Miikka Kiprusoff's heroic efforts in between the pipes for the Calgary Flames, and his 24 saves, Scott Gomez managed to beat him a little before 2 minutes into overtime. Cammaleri's wonderful stick play and playmaking helped convert the only goal of the game. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak also managed to grab a point.

HABS CLAIM ADAMS OFF WAIVERS FROM PENS
Tuesday, 13.10.2009 / 11:30 AM / NHL Regular Season 2010
By Dan Rosen - NHL.com Staff Writer

General Manager Pierre Gauthier explained bluntly to the media during a press conference in Bell Centre only two days before the Canadiens played their home opener against the Colorado Avalanche after he announced that he claimed winger Craig Adams off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 33 year old native from Seria, Brunei Darussalam was placed in the American Hockey League with the Canadiens' affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs, and was placed on the 2nd line as a right winger. He's 6'0" tall and weighs 197 pounds, he's a grinder type player.

"We're really developing our AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs, and acquiring a veteran like Craig, we believe he can release help the younger prospects to hurry their progress and get them into the National Hockey League faster, we're also looking to make some deals that will most likely involve draft picks and prospects" Pierre explained.

"Its tough going from an NHL spot, especially from the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, and now I'm heading to the AHL, its something I'm just going to have to accept and work my way up to the NHL" Craig told reporters in Hamilton.

Adams began his junior career with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the International Hockey League before being drafted in the 9th Round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft (223rd overall) by the now defunct Hartford Whalers prior to them becoming the Carolina Hurricanes. He played 44 games for the Hurricanes in the 2000-01 season, gathering only 1 goal before heading back to the IHL.

As the years went by, Adams became a jumper, jumping from the NHL to the AHL with the Hurricanes, his season high in points coming to 21 points for the Hurricanes during the 2006-07 season before being dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2007-08 season. He spent a season and half with Chicago before being dealt to Pittsburgh, where he won his second Stanley Cup Championship.

So far during the 2009-10 season, he has 2 assists in 6 games for the Penguins.
