New York - In the Pittsburgh Penguins' preseason opener against the New York Islanders, prospect goaltender John Curry looked phenomenal through the first two and a half periods. That is, until he let in two goals on two shots.

Mike Comrie and the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins' offense looked helpless, shooting the puck on net just fifteen times. I guess this means that GooseDennis will adjust the sliders.

Weird to see a Penguins lineup without Crosby or Malkin, or even Max Talbot.

Tough start with the pre-season, but at least you know this isn't the team to start the season.

Penguins Expected to Make Final Cuts

PITTSBURGH - Today, the Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to send players down to the AHL and, obviously, call stars like Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, et al. up.

The leader in goals in the preseason was Casey Pierro-Zabotel with three in four games. But it's more like two games because the Penguins were shut out in their first two.

Youngsters like Eric Tangradi are almost expected to make the team, whereas defensemen like Deryk Engelland's odds are 1000:1 that he gets on the NHL roster.
