2010-11 Season Outlook The Dallas Stars are coming off a horrible 2009-10 campaign in which they finished dead last in the Pacific Division. That was only the 2nd time they had finished last in their division and the only previous occasion was back in the 1995-96 season, which was only their 3rd year after moving to Dallas. The Stars missed the playoffs for the 4th time since moving from Minnesota. They have missed the playoffs back to back years for the first time in Dallas. Before the 2008-09 season the Stars had made 5 consecutive trips to the playoffs and they qualified for them 10 out of the 11 previous seasons, including back to back trips to the Stanley Cup Finals. They defeated the Sabres in their first Cup Finals trip. They lost to New Jersey the following year in 6 games. The Stars began building for the future during last season's debacle. They added Kari Lehotnen late last season leaving Marty Turco's future with the Stars up in the air. The Stars had a very busy off-season this year adding and losing several key players.

2010-11 Offense
The Dallas Stars have a very talented offense this year and hopefully for years to come. They are anchored by veteran center Brad Richards. He is surrounded by Brenden Morrow and James Neal on the wings. James Neal and Loui Eriksson are going to have to be key point producers on this team. Eriksson has proved over the last 2 seasons that he can put up good numbers. Neal has improved over the last 3 seasons, but he has yet to show that he can put up a 30 goal season or a 70 point season. The Stars are going to need both of these players to have strong seasons to have the Stars in playoff contention. Jamie Benn is another winger that has to show that he belongs on this team. He put up 41 points in his rookie season, so the Stars are looking for Benn to pitch in between 50-65 points this season. Richards and Ribeiro are going to have to keep the younger players on this team confident and focused as the season progresses.
2010-11 Defense
Robidas and Daley are going to be the main points of this Dallas Stars defense that has 5 returning starters. Fistric and Grossman will be the 2nd pairing. Fistric is entering his 2nd season as an NHL starter. This is a young defensive core that Dallas has. Matt Niskanen has shown to be a solid defenseman that can put up decent numbers when it comes to offensive side of defense. He will be paired with NHL veteran Karlis Skrastins. The Stars are hoping that the veteran Skrastins will be able to help develop Niskanen into a shut down dman that Dallas feels he can be.
2010-11 Goaltending
The Dallas Stars parted ways with long time Star Marty Turco this off-season. They chose not to re-sign Turco. He was picked up by the Stanley Cup Champion, Chicago Blackhawks after they lost Antti Niemi. Kari Lehtonen will be Dallas's starter when the season starts. He had a solid career in Atlanta before coming to Dallas last season. He will be backed up by former Vancouver Canuck, Andrew Raycroft. Look for Raycroft to get a bit more starts than an NHL backup would normally see this season.
