SWARM EFFECT
Columbus blanks Red Wings on the Road

COLUMBUS, OH - The Detroit Red Wings suffered it's first pre-season defeat last night 1 - 0 at the hands of the Columbus Bluejackets.

The lone goal of the game came when Bluejackets Captain R. J. Umberger found the back of the net at the 7:37 mark of the second period. Columbus goaltender Steve Mason stopped all 29 shots by the Red Wings offense.

On the plus side Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood only allowed the 1 goal on 27 shots by Columbus and seemed to be pretty happy with the outcome of the night.

"They could have had more the way they out played us tonight but I really felt good and relaxed in net tonight and that's what kept us in the game. Said Osgood.

The Wings now head to St. Louis to face off with the Blues on Thursday Night, September 23rd.

WINGS CRASH HOUSE OF BLUES
Offense comes alive in 5 - 3 Win

ST.LOUIS, MO - The Red Wings offense came alive at the Scottrade Center last night with a 5 - 3 win over the St. Louis Blues.

The Wings opened up the game with what they thought was a power play goal by Tomas Holmstorm but the Ref waived it off and went up stairs as he had believed that it was knocked down by Holmstorm's glove into the net. Upon further review the replay showed that it did not hit Holmstorm's glove but his jersey between his arm and chest and deflected in and Holmstrom was awarded his first goal of the pre-season on the power play to make it 1 - 0. Late in the period, Pavel Datsyuk caught a streaking Henrik Zetterberg on a break away down the right side and Zetterberg flipped it in just under the glove of the goaltender for his second of the per-season and the Wings lead 2 - 0 after the first period.

In the second period, The Blues got on the board with their young star T.J. Oshie finding the back of the net for the first time this pre-season the bring the Blues with in one at 2 - 1. The Wings though would kill that momentum as Jiri Hudler would get a rebound goal off the shot of Jonathan Ericsson just a minute and eighteen seconds later to put the Wings back up by 2 at 3 - 1 at the end of the second period.

In the third period The Blues tried to mount one more comeback and looked like it was going to work until Wings defensemen Brian Rafalski fired a shot from the point after a pass from Mike Modano to put the Wings up 4 - 1. The Blues how ever did not give up as them came storming back with goals by Alex Pietrangelo & Brad Boyes, both getting their first of the pre-season to close the game to a 4 - 3 game. But with under a thirty seconds to go in the game and errand pass led to Henrik Zetterberg getting his second of the night and third of the pre-season, an empty net goal to seal the fate of the Blue and give the Wings a 5 - 3 victory on the road.

The Wings finish the pre-season road record at 1 - 1 with Chris Osgood playing very well in both games. They now head home for the final contest of the Pre-Season as they face off with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks at the Joe Louis Arena this Saturday Night.

Excellent record so far... Are you looking to bring in some youth as you have alot of aging players.

Nice to see Jiri Hudler score a goal in a Red Wing uniform. It's been awhile.

Good start to the season, and nice job beating the Blues.

HOCKEYTOWN ENGINES REVING AT FULL STRENGTH
Wings fly by Hawks in final pre-season game 5 - 1

DETROIT, MI - The Detroit Red Wings finished out the 2010-2011 pre-season by soundly thrashing the Chicago Blackhawks at the Joe Louis Arena last night 5 - 1 to finish the pre-season with a 3 - 1 - 0 record.

The Wings got off to a hot start again last night in the first period when on the power play, Tomas Holmstrom got a hold of the loose puck out in front and slide it home to give the Wings a 1 - 0 lead. Chicago came back later in the period and tie the game up on a 2 on 1 breakaway that saw Hugh Jessiman fake a pass and deposit the puck top shelf over Jimmy Howard's shoulder and we were tied up going into period number 2.

Midway thru the second period everything fell apart for the Chicago Blackhawks and netminder Hannu Toivonen as the Wings scored the next 3 goals in just a minute and thirty six seconds to jump out a 4 - 1 lead as Kirk Maltby, Pavel Datsyuk, & Jiri Hudler all scored.

Later in the third period, Tomas Holmstorm fired a shot from the slot that flew past Toivonen to put the Wings up 5 - 1 and they would go on to win from there.

The Wings are now finished with the Pre-Season and now get set to open up the 2010-2011 regular season schedule with the Home Opener on Friday Night, October 8th against the Anaheim Ducks with a 7:30pm face off time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Note this game was played with the new tuner set (1.04) that came out and don't know if it was just the final pre-season game or what but Chicago did not come out to play in the game. Hope that Anaheim does not play like this or I may up the CPU Strategy setting to 2 to make it a challenge.
