WINGS TAKE FLIGHT ON EDMONTON
Datsyuk returns with 2 assists in Win

DETROIT, MI - The Red Wings welcomed back center Pavel Datsyuk to the line up tonight for their game against the Edmonton Oilers and it helped as he helped out with 2 assists in the game as the Wings became whole again and worked like a machine in their 6-3 win.

The Wings opened the scoring tonight when Drew Miller scored his 3rd goal of the season on this pass from Pavel Datsyuk to lead 1-0...

Miller's 3rd goal in 2 games gave the Wings the 1-0 lead. Edmonton would tie the game just a minute later when Alexandre Giroux fired a one timer by Jimmy Howard to tie the game at 1-1. The Wings would retake the lead midway through the first period when Nicklas Lidstrom fired one from the point that hit the crossbar and Tomas Holmstrom would deflected in to give the Wings a 2-1 lead after the first period.

The second period saw Edmonton make the comeback and it started with Ryan Whitney launching a shot from the point that blasted past Jimmy Howard and the Oilers tied the game at 2-2. The Oilers took a 3-2 lead on the Detroit when Zack Stortini scored his 2nd goal of the year from Horcroff and Brule on a shot from the slot to lead 3-2.

The Wings then went on a scoring streak of their own. It started with Tomas Holmstrom who scored his 2nd goal of the night after Henrik Zetterberg stole the puck and fed it to a wide open Holmstrom to tie the game at 3-3. The Wings retook the lead late in the 2nd when Valtteri Filppula fired a loose puck behind Khbibulin to lead 4-3.

In the third the Wings did not let up as again Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom hooked up again with Holmstorm finding the back of the net again for his 3 goal of the game and 8th of the season to extend the Wings lead to 5-3 late in the 3rd. The Wings would finish the scoring when Johan Franzen would put one into the empty net for his first of the year and the Wings would win 6-3.

The Wings now get set to face off with the Colorado Avalanche at the Joe Louis Arena on Saturday Night.

Tough seeing you go down in your first home loss to Phoenix, but nice bounce back against the Oilers. Nice to see Homer get the hat trick, and Wings stay above the .500 clip

BACK AND FORTH, COLORADO WINS IN OT
Two Power Play goals not enough for Wings

DETROIT, MI - Right Winger Chris Stewart of the Colorado Avalanche scored at the 2:56 mark of overtime tonight to help the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Wings at the Joe Louis Arena tonight.

The first period saw both teams get on the board. It started just 2:57 into the game when Matt Duchene fired a shot past the right pad of Jimmy Howard to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. The Wings would tie the game up 5:00 later when the captain Nicklas Lidstrom shot from the point flew past Colorado Goalie Peter Budaj for his 3rd of the year and the game was tied at 1-1 at the end of the first period.

The Avalanche would retake the lead in the second period when Matt Duchene would get his second goal of the game and 8th of the season on the power play with a great pass from Kyle Quincey out in front to give Colorado a 2-1 lead after 2 periods of plays.

The Wings would then light the lamp up on the power play in the third period. It started just 0:18 into the third period when Pavel Datsyuk (pictured above) scored his 2nd goal of the season on the power play to tie the game at 2-2. Colorado would again retake the lead when Right Winger Chris Stewart scored his 3rd of the season just 4:40 later to lead 3-2. That lead would not last long though as the Wings would counter that goal just over 2:00 later when Henrik Zetterberg would deflect a Nicklas Lidstrom shot from the point into the goal for the Wings second straight goal on the power play to tie the game at 3-3 and send it into overtime.

In overtime though a pass that bounced off the stick of Niklas Kronwall and onto the stick of Chris Stewart who broke in all alone and flipped it up over the glove hand at the 2:56 mark to give Colorado a 4-3 win in overtime.

Tough loss to a struggling Colorado team despite doubling their shots on goals. Tough to lose on a breakaway and also to watch Jimmy Howard give up 4 goals on 16 shots.

HOLLAND TELLS TEAM "TOUGH DRAFT AHEAD"

DETROIT, MI - During the press conference held today at the Joe Louis Arena, Red Wings GM Ken Holland told everyone that this maybe the toughest draft of the last couple of years for his scouting team with the possibility of certain players retiring at the end of this season.

"While we have alot of good players in our system now we know that we are going to need replacements for those players that we call up to the team next year." Said Holland.

The scouting team is on the road right now for the CHL Prospects game before meeting up with Holland in Los Angeles Tuesday Night to start the strategy session on just who the Wings will pick with the 21st overall pick in the first round.
