New York Rangers - NHL 11 BEAGM

Rosters: Draft Day Default
Sliders: ABV's As Real As It Gets (I may be tweaking some, also should be noted OBG's shooting sliders are used in this set)

My plan is to sim quite a few games, just to make it easier to get through the season. I plan to be doing monthly updates. Next Update will be up very shortly.

Rangers GM Glen Sather Fired

Glen Sather has been relieved of his duties today.

-Sage Froinker

June 20, 2010

Only 3 days before the 2010 NHL Draft, long-tenured GM Glen Sather has been fired according to sources. He has been the President and GM of the Rangers since 2000. While he has been around for a while, he has handed out questionable contracts out to the likes of Wade Redden and Michal Rozsival.

It all originated from an internet rumor that James Dolan, chairman of Madison Square Garden, Inc., was becoming dissatisfied with the job that Sather was doing, but we all dismissed it because he hadn't made a move before now. It began to gain steam, and now he has been relieved of his duties.

As for the search for another GM, it looks like Bob Rigernaz will be obtaining the job. Rigernaz, 34, has been mostly involved in economic research for the Minnesota Wild, but is highly regarded as an intellectual. He has been working for the Wild for 5 years or so now, and was getting steam to be the next Wild GM before Chuck Fletcher obtained that job. That should be finalized in the coming days. We'll be covering the draft as much as possible in the next few days.

James Dolan says there isn't any plans to replace John Tortorella as the head coach, and hopes the draft goes well.

Rangers Happy with First Draft Under Rigernaz

-Sage Froinker

June 25, 2010

The Rangers are really happy with the results that they obtained in this year's draft, and felt they got a lot of good players. Newly hired Bob Rigernaz ran the draft and had this to say after, "We were surprised by the people we were able to get at the spots that they were at. We felt like we added quality depth to our organization at the center and defensemen positions."

The Rangers only had 5 picks in which they took 3 centermen, and 2 defensemen. Here is a recap of who they took:

Ranger's 2010 Entry Draft Selections
Code:
Name RD # POS OVR POT
Erik Gudbranson 1 10 D 69 B
Ryan Johansen 2 40 C 71 B-
Dylan McIlrath 4 100 D 72 B-
Joey Hishon 5 130 C 68 B-
Jordan Weal 7 190 C 71 B-
GM Bob Rigernaz said that wasn't much trade action going on draft day like there normally is, and we can see that because there was only one draft day trade. Bob has said now they must turn their attention to Free Agency, the next big part in the off-season. He's told me that there is many guys he hopes to bring back, and there's many guys who won't be back, I'll be back in a couple of days to break down all of the action as it comes.

Rangers Re-Cap of Free Agent Frenzy

-Sage Froinker

As we headed into the free agency period under first year GM Bob Rigernaz, there were many unknowns, and several players were let go, but Rigernaz was surely busy this summer. He re-signed many players with the highlight being RFA Defensemen Marc Staal. He ended up signing a 3-year deal worth $3.900M a season, and he knew that Staal was going to be a big part of the puzzle.

Here's a recap of the players that were signed.

2010 New York Rangers Re-Signings
Code:
Name POS YRS $/YR OVR POT 1/2-WAY

Daniel Girardi D 3 $1.000M 79 C 2-WAY

Pavel Valentenko D 1 $0.890M 73 C 2-WAY
Erik Christensen C 3 $0.885M 79 C 1-WAY
Corey Locke C 1 $0.755M 75 C 2-WAY

Matt Zaba G 1 $0.570M 71 C 2-WAY
2010 New York Rangers Free Agent Signings

Code:
Name POS YRS $/YR OVR POT 1/2-WAY

Ray Whitney LW 1 $2.525M 81 D 1-WAY
Karri Ramo G 1 $1.000M 78 B- 1-WAY
David Rundblad D 3 $0.900M 70 B- 2-WAY
Mattias Tedenby LW 3 $0.875M 68 B- 2-WAY
Derek Meech D 3 $0.790M 76 C 2-WAY
Martin Skoula D 2 $0.680M 76 C 2-WAY
Mikko A. Lehtonen RW 1 $0.680M 74 C 2-WAY
Erik Reitz D 1 $0.680M 74 C 2-WAY
Chad Kolarik RW 1 $0.580M 73 C 2-WAY
Kyle Wanvig RW 1 $0.500M 73 C 2-WAY
Joacim Eriksson G 3 $0.500M 72 B- 2-WAY
The big acquisitions were that of Ray Whitney and Dan Hamhuis. You can see that there was a lot of roster turnover for the Wolf Pack, but it looks like Rigernaz added a lot of interesting players.

I know that he was looking to make a trade this off-season, but he couldn't do much with a couple of contracts tying his hands down.

Here is a recap of a couple of the major Free Agent signings:
LW Ilya Kovalchuk 91 6 year deal
G Evgeni Nabakov 89 1 year deal
C Olli Jokinen 84 3 year deal

And lastly, there was only one off-season trade:
get D Matt Greene, D Alec Martinez, D Davis Drewiske

in exchange for

get RW Erik Cole, LW Sergei Samsonov

This sounds interesting, will be following.

I like your draft - I have drafted McIlrath before and he is a beast on d, great shut down d-man for the future.

Yeah I was surprised I was able to get who I got and where I got them. I'm happy with the draft that I had, but I'm going to let them all develop another year in juniors.

I haven't played as the Rangers before, and it's a different way to play. I'll have another update probably later today.

How did you exactly get Gudbranson with 10th? Or Johansen in 2nd?
