After finishing a sub-par 35-37, the Carolina Hurricanes come into the 2010-2011 with the goal of returning to championship form. The team was bought out by new owner Drew Merchant for 175 million dollars. This move promised to be a very influential shift in the NHL.

Merchant, a business man from New York decided to buy the team to try and lead their return to greatness. Merchant is a graduate of the University of Buffalo where he played hockey for the Bulls. Armed with a few great players, Merchant plans to expand on his current roster. He promises "to shake things up and give Carolina a quality hockey team they deserve.

One thing is for sure, this year Carolina will definitely have a different hockey team then they have seen in the past.

This could be one of the greatest trade days in NHL history. The Carolina Hurricanes trade a number of draft picks and newly added young prospects for 3 great offensive players that very well could be the #2 line together this season in Carolina. Center Andy Mcdonald, left-wing Alex Frolov, right-wing Daniel Briere are a great combo that could help Carolina make a run at the playoffs. This trade might have hurt the future of the Hurricanes, but the players in Carolina say their time is now.

Sergei Samsonov #14

Sergei was moved up to the Hurricanes from the AHL affiliate Checkers. This was after Tom Kostopoulos was given an opportunity to perform for the Hurricanes. In his lack of production and Samsonov's great play in the NHL, the decision was finalized at the beginning of week 5.

why would you get rid of Skinner? trading him AND a first-rounder for Stafford seems like a huge mistake. Good luck with this though.

Yeah, but for some reason 1st rounders just don't have the same value in this game as they do in other ones. Also, Skinner isn't rated too high and has about a B or B- potential. I guess I wouldn't do it, but I can see it if you want to add a player that you like.
