Kings dismantle Stars

Scott Parse scores a goal from the faceoff circle.

11/11/10

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Tyler Beskorowany made his second appearance of the season tonight as he started against the Los Angeles Kings but it was short lived as he allowed four goals in the first period and wouldn't return for the remainder of the game as the Kings dismantled the Dallas Stars with an 8-1 victory.

Beskorowany allowed three goals within the first 10 minutes of the game, which didn't sit well with head coach Marc Crawford, who was once behind the bench in Los Angeles.

"It was a bad game overall for us. Tyler did all that he could but we can't let a team completely control the tempo and how we play our game, if we keep this going we might as well not even be on the ice."

Dustin Brown scored a minute into the game after receiving the puck right in front of goal after a bad clearing attempt by defenseman Trevor Daley who was being held behind the net by Anze Kopitar.

Brown took the puck and snapped it past Beskorowany for his sixth goal of the season, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead.

Ryan Smyth scored his third of the season at 5:13 with Anze Kopitar and Willie Mitchell earning the assists. Enforcer Matt Greene also added a goal, with his second coming at 7:18 from a pass by Jarret Stoll at the top of the left circle, winding up and shooting it past the young goaltender.

Dallas got a powerplay chance late in the first period after Michal Handzus was called on a hooking penalty, sending him to the box for two minutes.

But it was Los Angeles who took advantage as Rich Clune scored for the Kings on a shorthanded play for his first goal of the season, after jumping on a rebound after a shot taken by Matt Greene.

Beskorowany continued to play for the remainder of the first period but would not return for the second as Kari Lehtonen was set to start for the rest of the game.

The new goaltender seemed to fire up the Stars as they finally put a goal on the scoreboard as Brendan Morrow scored early at 2:11 for a 4-1 score, somewhat giving a chance to the Stars to mount what would seem a miraculous comeback.

With two seconds left on the clock, Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell was pulled down on a breakaway and given a penalty shot, which he would score on for a 5-1 lead to Los Angeles to end the second period.

Los Angeles scored three more goals in the third period with the first coming from Trevor Lewis for his second goal of the season at 2:21 with his fourth line teammates Brad Richardson and Rich Clune earning the assist, it was also Clune's second point of the night.

Clune would also earn himself a coveted "Gordie Howe hat-trick" as he was involved in a fight five minutes into the third period with Mark Fistric. Clune made his way to the locker room instead of the penalty box as he held his hand and would not return to the game due to injury.

About a minute later, Scott Parse added goal number seven for the Kings at 6:09 with Michal Handzus earned the lone assist on the goal.

Previous goal scoreres Dustin Brown and Ryan Smyth earned their second points of the game as they assisted on Anze Kopitar's goal at 15:23 to give the Kings a very comfortable 8-1 lead and the victory over the Dallas Stars.

Both Tyler Beskorowany and Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals each during the game from 28 shots taken by the Kings.

Jonathan Quick, who didn't have much to do tonight made 15 saves during the night from 16 shots taken by the Stars, allowing only one goal.

Clune sidelined with broken hand

November 12th, 2010

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Los Angeles Kings winger Rich Clune will be out for at least five weeks after suffering a broken hand in an 8-1 win over Dallas.

Clune was involved in a fight with Dallas defenseman Mark Fistric in the third period and walked off into the locker room to attend to his broken hand.

Although it wouldn't be confirmed until much later that in fact it was a broken hand, he did not return for the rest of the game and made his way to the local hospital for medical attention.

In 14 games played this year, the 23 year old Toronto native has registered his first career NHL goal and two assists for three points.

So far in his career, he has played 28 games with the Kings, totaling five points, with one goal and four assists.

The Kings have announced forward Oscar Moller will be joining the team to replace Clune.

The 21 year old has played 20 games this season with the Manchester Monarchs, tallying four goals and six assists for 10 points. In his NHL career, he has played 74 games, all with the Kings, and has earned 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in two seasons played.

Moller will wear the no. 9 shirt for the Kings.

Kings sign free agent Skoula

November 12th, 2010

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Los Angeles Kings have announced the signing of free agent defenseman Martin Skoula to a one year contract.

As per team policy, financial information was not disclosed.

"Martin comes to our organization with a wealth of experience, regardless of whether he is playing in AHL with Manchester or with the Kings, he will definitely be an asset to the team and has the ability to help younger players develop." said GM Dean Lombardi in a press release.

The 31 year old defenseman from the Czech Republic was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 1998 as the 17th overall pick. After playing five seasons with the Avlanche, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, before signing the following season with the Dallas Stars, who then shipped him to Minnesota.

Most recently he split the 09/10 season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New Jersey Devils.

In 776 games played in his career, he has tallied 44 goals and 152 assists for 196 points overall.

Kings hold off third period rally from Islanders

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Jonathan Quick made 18 saves tonight, including a late third period flurry to hold off the New York Islanders from an upset win as the Kings took a 4-3 victory at the Staples Center.

Los Angeles took a 3-0 lead between the first and second periods, but lacked in defense as they allowed New York to mount a comeback in the third period.

Drew Doughty scored his seventh goal of the season 1:44 into the game with Ryan Smyth and Anze Kopitar taking the assists.

Jarret Stoll and Alexei Ponikarovsky teamed up at 8:42 to help Jack Johnson score his fourth goal of the season to hand the Kings a 2-0 lead over the Islanders.

Kopitar added his own goal late in the second period at 17:37 for his second of the year.

But the Islanders managed to rally back starting off with an early powerplay goal at 1:13 from Trent Hunter, followed a few minutes later with John Tavares' first goal of the game to cut the deficit down to one goal.

The Kings managed to gain another goal to add for the lead at 9:04 with Matt Greene scoring for Los Angeles, giving them an edge going through to the end.

Before the game ended, Tavares added his second goal of the game at 16:46 to make it a 4-3 score and end the game on a thrilling note as the Kings held on to win the game.

(San Jose, CA) -- Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski scored in the shootout to hand the San Jose Sharks a stunning 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

This marks the Kings first overtime loss of the season.

Los Angeles came back from a 2-1 deficit in the third period to tie it up and send it into overtime after Devin Setoguchi and Dany Heatley handed the Sharks the lead early in the third period.
