Re: Broad Street Bullies: Philadelphia Flyers NHL 11 Be A GM
SIM: The Flyers' first game since both the embarrassing 7-0 loss and the line shakeups was in New York against the Islanders. After an Islanders goal 28 seconds in, Hartnell and Leino both tallied later in the period for a 2-1 Flyers lead after 1. After a Hunter goal 58 seconds into the 2nd, Jeff Carter scored twice to give the Flyers a 4-2 lead that they would ultimately hold. Said Laviolette after the game, "We need to improve in our early-period play, but other than that it was a good effort from everyone on the ice." Sergei Bobrovsky, in net for the 7-0 thrashing, made 30 saves to guide the Flyers to a victory.

NATIONALHOCKEYREPORT.COM POST-GAME REPORT:
The Flyers, in their black jerseys for today's game, came out sluggish to start the first, turning the puck over multiple times in the defensive zone and ultimately giving up an early Matt Bradly goal. This sparked the Flyers, however, and they responded with several good scoring chances and some strong checks courtesy of Scott Hartnell. Late in the period this culminated in an Ovechkin elbow and a Flyers powerplay; however, Danny Briere took a penalty just 22 seconds later and the teams played 4-on-4 to the end of the period.
The second saw a balancing of power with both Washington and Philadelphia taking good shots, both on net and at each other. At one point Bobrovsky snagged an Ovechkin one-timer with the glove; Varlamov answered moments later with a pokecheck on a streaking Ville Leino. Things simmered for several minutes until Andrej Meszaros, nearing the end of his shift, made a big hit on Tom Poti, and then crushed another Capitals forward into the boards. This caused a turnover and Leino took the puck up ice, dishing it around the back of the net for Daniel Briere. Briere paused momentarily and sent a pass to Braydon Coburn, waiting at the blue line. Coburn received the puck, shifted slightly to his left and launched a low slapshot that beat Varlamov blocker side for a Flyers goal. Leino, after passing to Briere, had skated to the front of the net and was screening Varlamov, allowing Coburn to sneak the puck past him.
The third saw the Flyers give up 2 bad goals for a 3-1 deficit. "Both should've been turnovers caused by the defense," Laviolette said after the game. "And both should've been saved by Bobrovsky." Zherdev tallied on a breakaway just a few minutes later, but 2 penalties only 30 seconds apart held the Flyers comeback in check and the Capitals escaped with a 3-2 win. "Frankly, what I saw at times was disgusting," Laviolette said in his post-game press conference.
