Re: Atlanta Thrashers - NHL 11 BAGM

Thanks for the comments, guys. As for the tables, I made the first ones on my own in Excel because I didn’t know either that OS had such sweet tables, but now I’m definitely going to use them.

--------------------------------------------------

THRASHERS FALL LATE IN WASHINGTON

Too many penalties, punished by Capitals

September 22nd. Washington, D.C. What looked like a victory for the Thrashers turned into a nightmare late in the game. The hosting Washington Capitals struck four times in the last three minutes to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 home win. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom both had two goals and an assist, while Alex Semin finished with four helpers. Jason Chimera and Jeff Heerema also scored for Washington (3-1-0 in preseason). Jeremy Morin, Nik Antropov and Anthony Stewart had goals for Atlanta (1-3-0).

The Thrashers fell late due to a lack of discipline, as they were called for five minor penalties in the third period alone. The Caps were unable to convert any of their first six powerplays in the game, but they finally scored with the man-advantage late in the third when Backstrom stuffed in a rebound past Tim Thomas. Jason Chimera then added another powerplay goal, redirecting a Laich slap shot. Chimera’s goal stood as the winner, and Heerema and Backstrom added empty-net goals to seal the win.

“The effort in the third period was not good enough”, Thrashers forward Andrew Ladd said. “We took some stupid penalties and we got punished for that. It was like the Florida game all over again. We have to be better than that.”

Atlanta finished their preseason with a disappointing 1-3-0 record, but coach Craig Ramsay feels his team is ready for the season anyway. “It’s a good group”, Ramsay said. “I’m pretty sure that we’ll be better when it counts.”

Thrashers GM Robert Miller will announce the starting-day roster tomorrow, and he knows that he will have to face some hard decisions. Dougie Hamilton, Shane Prince and Tobias Rieder could end up in juniors again, while it will also be difficult to decide who will start in Atlanta and will have to go to AHL affiliate Chicago.

Re: Atlanta Thrashers - NHL 11 BAGM

Warning: this is a HUGE Update I guess I’m too lazy to make an update after each game, so I decided to update this dynasty after every five games and give you an overview about those games, statistics and depth charts. I used the OS tables, but merely as a basis because I altered them the way I want them to be. I hope you’ll enjoy this, feel free to leave comments and suggestions

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

GAME 01: 2011/10/04 THRASHERS @ BRUINS, 3-4 OT

Atlanta began their season with an overtime road loss in Boston. Michael Ryder provided the winner when he banged in a rebound after 2:28 in OT. Atlanta trailed for most of the game, but Tomas Fleischmann forced overtime with a powerplay goal with just 37 seconds left in regulation. Tim Thomas was unable to beat his former team, while ex-colleague Tuukka Rask came up big for Boston.

GAME 02: 2011/10/06 THRASHERS @ PENGUINS, 1-4

The game was tied at 1-1 until Evgeni Malkin scored on a fluke goal with less than two minutes left in the third period. The Penguins then scored two empty-netter to make it 4-1. Nik Antropov scored the lone goal for the Thrashers who were clearly better in comparison to their season opener. However, a lack of offense made it impossible to win this one as Pens goalie Marc-Andre Fleury was flawless.

GAME 03: 2011/10/08 THRASHERS @ PENGUINS, 2-4

The rematch in Pittsburgh saw Atlanta slip again, this time because of a bad second period where they allowed three straight goals. The Thrashers cut the deficit to one in the third, but they were unable to pull even while the Penguins had an empty-netter again. Matt Cooke’s tip-in goal stood as the game winner, while the Thrashers ended their three-game road trip with yet another loss.

GAME 04: 2011/10/09 HURRICANES @ THRASHERS, 5-7

The Thrashers finally got their first win of the season in their home-opener when they beat the Hurricanes in a wild offensive battle, 7-5. Eleven Thrashers saw their name on the scoreboard, and Rich Peverley provided the game-winner with a wrap-around goal. Atlanta coach Ramsay was unhappy with the team’s defensive play, but admitted that getting the first W of the season was a huge relief.

GAME 05: 2011/10/11 LIGHTNING @ THRASHERS, 3-4 OT

The Thrashers led 3-1, but the Lightning bravely fought their way back into the game. Vincent Lecavalier forced overtime late, but the Thrashers, unhappy that they couldn’t hang on, sealed the win when Nik Antropov tipped-in a shot after 3:38. Dustin Byfuglien injured star player Steven Stamkos with a huge hit in the second period. Stamkos didn’t return and will miss four weeks with a broken wrist.

INJURY REPORT

C Patrice Cormier suffered a wrist sprain in game 5 vs Tampa Bay. As a replacement, RW Akim Aliu was called up from Chicago (AHL).

TEAM SCOPE

Who’s hot:

- Dustin Byfuglien: a true leader on the ice, leads the team offensively as a defenseman
- Nik Antropov: off to a great start after a disappointing season
- Alexander Burmistrov: best faceoff man on the team and plays comfortably at both ends

Who’s not:

- Rich Peverley: scored GWG vs Carolina, but has a team-worst -6 and struggles at faceoffs (31% won)
- Tobias Enstrom: leader in TOI, but has no points yet and is -5
- Tim Thomas: you expect more from an All-Star than Thomas’ 3.39 GAA and .895 Svs%

NEXT FIVE GAMES

The Thrashers have three away games and two home games coming up. They have one back-to-back game, and they will meet two divisional rivals this week, both at home.

Oct 15: THRASHERS @ RANGERS

Re: Atlanta Thrashers - NHL 11 BAGM

GAME 06: 2011/10/13 THRASHERS @ CANADIENS, 4-2

Atlanta got their first road win of the season with a solid performance in Montreal. Recent AHL callup Akim Aliu scored the game-winner and added an assist to surprisingly lead the Thrashers, while goaltender Corey Crawford turned aside 34 shots in his first game of the season. The Thrashers led comfortably throughout the game as Montreal just couldn't cope with Atlanta's physical style.

GAME 07: 2011/10/15 THRASHERS @ RANGERS, 1-4

Two days after a great win in Montreal, the Thrashers this time got dominated by the Rangers. Artem Anisimov scored the game-winner while Alex Frolov added three assists for New York. The Thrashers especially slumped at the facoff dot, and it never seemed as if they could pull off a comeback. To make things even worse, Atlanta lost Akim Aliu to an undisclosed leg injury.

GAME 08: 2011/10/17 PANTHERS @ THRASHERS, 1-5

Back at home, the Thrashers made quick work of divisional rival Florida, cruising to an easy 5-1 victory. Again, the Thrashers physical approach proved to be too much for an opponent, and David Booth and Dmitri Kulikov were injured in the process. Corey Crawford picked up the win and Niclas Bergfors scored the decisive goal, but left the game late in the game with a hamstring injury.

GAME 09: 2011/10/19 CAPITALS @ THRASHERS, 8-6

The Thrashers again suffered from inconsistency, losing to Washington after a good win. Lackluster defense allowed superstars Ovechkin and Backstrom to post two goals and an assist each. Brooks Laich had the game-winning goal. It certainly didn't help that Dustin Byfuglien got ejected with a game misconduct in the second period for boarding. Afterwards, the Atlanta defense just collapsed completely.

GAME 10: 2011/10/20 THRASHERS @ STARS, 5-1

The Thrashers season certainly feels like a rollercoaster. After disappointing losses, Atlanta comes back with convincing victories, and vice versa. This time, they made quick work with Dallas. Evander Kane had the game-winner and Andrew Ladd scored twice, while Tim Thomas had 28 saves. The Stars were unfortunate with a couple of crossbar hits in the decisive second period, but were outplayed for most of the game.

INJURY REPORT

- C Patrice Cormier missed three games with a wrist sprain, but returned against Washington.
- RW Akim Aliu suffered a leg injury against New York and is expected to miss two weeks.
- RW Niclas Bergfors suffered a hamstring injury against Florida and is about to miss three weeks.
- As a replacement, LW Linus Klasen was recalled from the Chicago Wolves (AHL).

NEXT FIVE GAMES

The Thrashers close out October with a long road trip, starting at the West coast and ending at the East coast. Trips to Los Angeles (5-2-1) and New Jersey (5-2-0) should be tough, but a game with league-worst Edmonton (1-8-0) is also ahead. No divisional rivals on the schedule this week.

Oct 24: THRASHERS @ OILERS
Oct 27: THRASHERS @ SABRES
Oct 29: THRASHERS @ ISLANDERS
