Re: The C of Red - Calgary Flames (NHL11 BAGM)

yeah it's been a strange dynasty so far. I never had so many injuries so early in the season, and I have scored A LOT so far. Didn't do anything special, didn't even shoot that much. However, I was limited in to one goal each in game 6 and 7.

Game 06. Canadiens @ Flames, 4-1

The Flames' home opener ended in a big disappointment as the Canadiens handed Calgary the first regulation loss of the season. Andrei Kostitsyn scored twice and Carey Price finished with 37 saves to lead Montreal. P.K. Subban and Travis Moen had the other goals for the Habs, and Brayden Schenn had the lone goal for Calgary.

Game 07. Senators @ Flames, 2-1
Another tough home loss for Calgary as goals from Bobby Butler and Peter Regin were enough to keep the Flames at bay. Miikka Kiprusoff had 25 saves, while Pasca Leclaire responded with 22 saves for Ottawa. Olli Jokinen had a team-leading seventh goal.

Game 08. Capitals @ Flames, 4-3
The Flames' recent struggles continued in a rare visit by Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals. Calgary got goals from defensemen Anton Babchuk (2) and Cory Sarich, while Eric Fehr led Washington with two goals and an assist. John Carlson and Brooks Laich had the other goals for the Capitals.

Game 09. Flames @ Blue Jackets, 5-8
Backup goaltender Henrik Karlsson was on the receiving end of eight goals in his first start of the season. Antoine Vermette led Columbus with two goals and an assist, Derek Dorsett also scored twice and Jakub Voracek had a goal and two assists. The Flames had Greg Nemisz back in the lineup after missing four straight games with a hamstring injury.

Game 10. Flames @ Blues, 3-4
The slumping Flames dropped five in row at St Louis. Forwards Mikael Backlund (missed 8 games) and Tim Jackman (missed 7 games) were both back in the lineup. Jarome Iginla tied the game with just four minutes late, but Cory Sarich took a hooking penalty with less than two minutes to go which resulted in the game-winning goal by T.J. Oshie.

Losing streaks are never good. Especially that last game with the game winning goal for the other team coming on a late powerplay.

Game 11. Flames @ Kings, 2-0
Miikka Kiprusoff had his first shutout of the season with a 29-save outing in California. Tom Kostopoulos and Mikael Backlund had goals in the second period for the Flames who ended their five-game losing streak with an excellent defensive game.

Game 12. Flames @ Stars, 3-1
The Flames won another one on the road, again thanks to solid defensive play. Jarome Iginla scored twice and Mikael Backlund added an insurance goal. Tom Wandell had the lone goal for Dallas. The Flames lost defenseman Brent Sopel to an upper-body injury in the second period.

Game 13. Predators @ Flames, 4-5 SO
The Flames ensured their first home win in a wild game against Nashville. After a 1-0 lead, the Flames were suddenly down 1-2 before eventually getting up 4-2 thanks to three (!) shorthanded goals (Greg Nemisz 2 and Curtis Glencross). Nashville got back to tie the game which was ended in a shootout where Alex Tanguay was the only player to score.

Game 14. Coyotes @ Flames, 2-0
Against Phoenix, the Flames were shutout for the first time this season. Vernon Fiddler and Keith Yandle scored for the Coyotes, Ilya Bryzgalov had 31 saves. Flames backup Henrik Karlsson had 22 saves in a rare start.

Game 15. Sharks @ Flames, 1-2
Ales Kotalik had his first goal in six games and T.J. Brodie had his first of his NHL career to lead the Flames past the Sharks. Devon Setoguchi scored for San Jose while Miikka Kiprusoff (26 saves) bested Antti Niemi (24 saves).

INJURY REPORT:

*** Rene Bourque has started skating and is expected to make a return soon. Mitch Wahl has been returned to Abbotsford, indicating that a Bourque comeback may happen earlier than thought.

*** Brent Sopel left in the Flames' road game in Dallas with an apparent upper-body injury and has missed three straight games. He is expected to miss at least another week.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

The Flames have five consecutive home games coming up. They welcome two divisional rivals and two teams from California during that stretch.

GAME 16: vs EDM, 11/06
GAME 17: vs VAN, 11/08
GAME 18: vs ANA, 11/10
GAME 19: vs LAK, 11/12
GAME 20: vs STL, 11/14

Hmm.. good dynasty so far. When Rene gets back, try putting him on the first line as the LW.
