Re: This Fire is Out of Control - Calgary Flames BaGM
Great work, keep it up!!!
I think you are doing quite fine without Iginla ... seems like Tangs and GlenX are doing wonders for you. Good to see Nemisz among the rookie leaders as well.
Re: This Fire is Out of Control - Calgary Flames BaGM
Hey guys, sorry for the long wait between updates. I was having a lot of slider trouble for a while there, so I didn't really get any games done for a while. Then I tried Tazer19's sliders, and while the sliders themselves didn't work for me, they made me realize that tuner 1.00 is infinitely more fun, so I reworked my sliders using it and everything is awesome again.
The game was so much fun that I blew right past the 41-game mark and past the all-star break, and I'm sitting about 58 games in right now. I recorded the stats from both spots so I'm gonna try to crank out both updates asap.
Once again, sorry for the wait, and thank you Tazer for pointing me in the right direction with your sliders!

Mid-Season Report Card:
Forwards
Alex Tanguay 41GP | 14G | 21A | 35P
Tanguay has exceeded all expectations. Brought in to be Iginla's set-up man, Tanguay has flourished in Iginla's absence. He leads the team in almost all important statistical categories, including goals, assists, points, game-winners, and shooting percentage. Tanguay has evolved his game and can no longer be considered a one-dimensional pass-happy playmaker. Grade: A+
Brendan Morrison 41GP | 5G | 18A | 23P
Morrison has been a steady contributor on the top line. He's no superstar, but he always seems to find his way into the right spot for a pretty passing play. He doesn't do much on his own, but his linemates are good enough that he doesn't have to. He's also emerged as an important penalty-killing presence, but it's hard to say whether that's a good thing considering the Flames rank dead-last in the PK department Grade: A
Jarome Iginla 18GP | 7G | 11A | 18P
The Flames captain has missed more games this season than he has in any other previous season in his career. His absence has hurt the Flames, but they managed to float around .500 over that period. He made an immediate impact upon his return, assisting on Tanguay's goal 21 seconds into his first game, and he's recorded 3 assists in 3 games since coming back. However, he hasn't quite been his dominant self, and it's hard to judge what kind of season he's having with the time he's missed. Grade: B
Rene Bourque 41GP | 13G | 7A | 20P
It's been a disappointing season for the big winger. He's shown the potential for a 70 point season in the past, but he's on pace for just 40 this time around. He's especially struggled in 5-on-5 play, scoring only 6 goals during even strength. He's shown flashes, but that's starting to sound like a broken record. Grade: C-
Olli Jokinen 24GP | 4G | 9A | 13P
Jokinen has missed significant time with a post-concussion syndrome, and it begs the question: when was the first concussion? Jokinen was off to a stellar start this season, but then the wheels fell off and he was pointless in 6 games before he missed any time. He's been producing at a respectable pace since his return. Overall, it's been slightly below expectations, but hardly surprising and understandable in hindsight. Grade: C
Curtis Glencross 41GP | 11G | 7A | 18P
Glencross was coming off a career year in which he scored 24 goals and 43 points, and his production has been close to the same. In a year where it's been tough to find consistent linemates, a regression is understandable. He's been explosive most of the time and has scored many timely goals. Although he may be in over his head being expected to be a consistent second line scorer, he's a steady performer and has put in an honest effort. Grade: B
Niklas Hagman 41GP | 10G | 10A | 20P
Hagman has been one of the most underwhelming performers on the Flames' roster since his trade from Toronto. However, after the string of injuries the Flames had to endure, Hagman was the main beneficiary of some line shuffling as he found himself playing alongside Curtis Glencross and Brendan Morrison on the second line. He flourished in that position, scoring 4 points in his first game with the new linemates. His production has returned to a level close to what was expected of him when he came here. Grade: B+
Lee Stempniak 38GP | 7G | 9A | 16P
Stempniak got off to a horrendous start to the season, scoring but a single point in the first 13 games of the season, and he found himself sitting in the press box shortly thereafter. He found his way back into the lineup after some injuries, but he continued to underwhelm. The turning point in the season was when he was paired with Mikael Backlund and Greg Nemisz on the fourth line. The trio has been lighting it up ever since, and have been arguably the Flames' best line on a lot of nights. Grade: C+
Greg Nemisz 36GP | 8G | 7A | 15P
Nemisz finally cracked the Flames lineup after a few years of toiling in the minors, and he has not looked back. His point totals are disproportionately low compared to his overall performance. He's been a terror to play against and has been throwing his 6'4'' frame around on a consistent basis. If his progression continues he could find himself a top-6 forward in the very near future. Grade: A
Mikael Backlund 41GP | 5G | 9A | 14P
Backlund was expected to make a serious push for a top-6 spot this season after finally sticking with the big club last season. However, some fantastic chemistry was established and Backlund found himself the odd man out. To his credit, he has dedicated himself to improving his defensive game and has lately been playing a lot of hard minutes on the PK and against the opposition's top lines. Grade: B+
David Moss 40GP | 5G | 3A | 8P
To say Moss's season has been disappointing is an understatement. He's been invisible on most nights and has been slowly relegated to fourth line duty. Grade: D
Matt Stajan 28GP | 2G | 5A | 7P
Stajan was thought to be a potential number one center when he was signed to a 4-year, $14M contract. Boy, have times changed. Stajan has struggled to stay on the roster, and has contributed very little in the way of offence. For a player who has put up 50+ points in the past, he is going to struggle to score 20 this year. The lone bright spot has been his team-leading +/- rating of +6, despite nearly all of his linemates having negative ratings. Grade: C-
Tim Jackman 38GP | 3G | 1A | 4P
Another big disappointment this season, Jackman scored 23 points last season, but has found himself a mainstay in the press box after producing not much more than a -9 rating this season. Grade: D-
Tom Kostopoulos 24GP | 0G | 3A | 3P
Kostopoulos has been mainly a healthy scratch this season, as the Flames have found themselves with 14 forwards for most of the season. Grade: C-
Defensemen
Mark Giordano 41GP | 3G | 13A | 16P
Giordano has been his usual steady self for the most part. His scoring is down a touch, but he's on pace for 32 which is still a respectable amount. He's turned over the puck a bit more than usual, though, which is of some concern. Grade: B
Jay Bouwmeester 41GP | 2G | 9A | 11P
Bouwmeester has once again disappointed with his offensive numbers. After scoring 15 goals his last season with Florida, he looks to be once again on pace for low single-digits. However, he has been arguably the best defensive defenseman for the Flames, and has posted a +3 rating in a sea of negative players. Grade: A-
Cory Sarich 40GP | 2G | 9A | 11P
It's odd to see Sarich putting up the same offensive number as Bouwmeester, but that's the situation the Flames find themselves in. Sarich has been a steady, physical defenseman, and has moved the puck well enough to pick up some assists here and there. That's about all is expected from Sarich, and he has delivered exactly that. Grade: B+
Anton Babchuk 41GP | 6G | 14A | 20P
Babchuk has been a key part of the Flames league-leading powerplay. His booming slapshot has terrorized defenders all season long and he's been picking up points consistently. However, his defensive play has left a lot to be desired. He's given the puck away a ton, and has really struggled when he's been matched up against skilled offensive players. Grade: B-
Chris Butler 41GP | 2G | 5A | 7P
Butler has been invisible - in a good way. He rarely makes a flashy play but also rarely makes a big defensive mistake. Grade: B
Scott Hannan 35GP | 1G | 2A | 3P
He's done exactly what the Flames expected of him: keep the puck out of the net. He has combined with Butler to form a steady 3rd pairing that the Flames feel comfortable putting out against anyone. Grade: B
Brendan Mikkelson 7GP | 1G | 0A | 1P
He's stepped in and performed well during Hannan's and Sarich's injuries. He's got the potential to be a mainstay on the blueline in the future, but he'll need another year or 2. Grade: B+
Kiprusoff has been solid for the most part, but he has had a few weak games, and has allowed some soft goals. It's becoming more and more evident that he may not ever recover his Vezina-winning form, and that he'll simply be very good. However, very good has been good enough so far, and the Flames hope that will continue to be enough. Grade: B-
Karlsson has actually put up better numbers than Kiprusoff thus far, but that is likely due to the small sample size. He's performed well enough that the Flames aren't afraid to put him in, and his playing time could increase if the Flames feel the need to rest Kiprusoff for a playoff run. Grade: A-
Re: This Fire is Out of Control - Calgary Flames BaGM
Teams been pretty up and down for you this year, but way to pull out fourth in the conference so far. It should be a dog fight the rest of the way, hopefully Kipper plays a little more consistently to give your squad a solid backbone.
