Gerbe, Hecht reflect, talk Sabres and new teams
Nathan Gerbe was traded to the LA Kings late last night
Jochen Hecht has been a Buffalo Sabre since 2002. A hard worker and over-achiever Hecht has provided Buffalo with secondary scoring his entire career. Buffalo tried sliding Hecht in through waivers early this morning, but his was picked up by the Jets just ten minutes after the transaction. Although not considered a fan favorite, Hecht has won the respect of Sabres fans who are sad to see him go. Lindy Ruff made just one man available for comment, captain Jason Pominville. When asked about Hecht's departure he had this to say:
Jochen released the following statement:
Nathan Gerbe has been the epitome of Buffalo hockey his whole Career. Under sized at just 5'5, Gerbe has used hard work to reach hockey's grand stage. Buffalo took a chance on Gerbe after every team passed over him to the tune of 2005's 142nd pick. Instead of discouraging him, he turned it into motivation. It Took until 2008, but Gerbe cracked the Buffalo Sabre's AHL affiliate Rochester Americans line-up. In 57 games played Gerbe scored 30 goals, and had 56 points. The Leagues shortest player was donning an AHL All-Star jersey that very season. Gerbe Broke into the Top-12 of the Sabres in 2010, and instantly became a fan favorite. Gerbe's story represents Buffalo hockey, with perseverance you can get through anything. Although he wanted to play here, when asked Gerbe had the following to say:
GM Darcy Regier had this to say:
Gerbe cleaned his locker out during the team's morning skate, and was sent on his way with a face full of shaving cream courtesy of team mate Luke Adam. Gerbe is not expected to play in LA's game against the Anaheim Ducks tomorrow night in Anaheim. Hecht left Rochester this morning and will play tomorrow night in Toronto with his new team.
