The Red Wings are a team based on skill and finesse. If the Oilers can keep them out of the neutral zone, and open ice, they will be able to dominate the game. They will attempt a 1-2-2 low against the Red Wings.
If successful, the Oilers dump it in low, where a defenseman will play the puck. F1 will get on this defenseman's ***, forcing him to play it behind the net. F2, who was stationed at the hash marks earlier, will move to the side wall, preventing a pass up the boards. F3, who was stationed at the side wall earlier, will move to the hash marks, preventing a center pass. The now strong side defenseman will move over to where he would be in an offensive attack, whereas the weak side d-man will move slightly behind where the other d-man was, providing backside support. The natural reaction for D1 will be to chip it off the glass and out to center, which will be playing right into the Oilers' hands.
