C Of Red: A Calgary Flames Franchise

Erik Anderson is a busy man. After signing up for the GM spots for the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers and the NBA's Miami Heat, now he signed up for the GM spot of the Calgary Flames. (It feels like he's in a game or something...). As per his style, he does plan on announcing trades before the season starts.

Recap and outlook

The Flames are a veteran team who have struggled in recent years. The Flames haven't won a playoff series since they lost in the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals. They windows is all but closed for this team, but there must be some moves to acquire more talent.

Flames shopping picks, looking for Fowards.
In an interview with Flames GM Erik Anderson, Erik mentioned that "I plan to be shopping picks to get better fowards on the ice with (Jerome) Iginla." He also mentioned that "Getting some Defensemen would be nice if the opertunity arises, but it is not of my immediate concern."

Flames announce trades; acquire big names

All it took was a few trades, and the Flames have one of the best forward lines in decades. Flames GM Erik Anderson announced this morning these trades:

Flames trade: Alex Tanguay, Matt Stajan
Lightning trade: Steven Stamkos

Flames trade: Mikael Backlund, 2012 1st round pick, 2013 1st round pick, 2013 2nd round pick, 2014 1st round pick
Penquins trade: Evgeni Malkin

Flames trade: Mark Gidrdand, 2012 2nd round pick
Canadiens trade: P.K. Subban

The Flames aquired two elite Fowards to go with Iginla and a young, promising Defenseman. Coincedencly enough, Steven Stamkos and PK Subban played on the same pee-wee team. The Flames also signed Jakub Klepis to make up for the lack of centers, as Malkin will play Left Wing.

The Flames begin the season at home versus Malkin's former team, the Penquins.

Flames score 4 goals in 5 minutes, crush Penquins

The Flames opened up the season at home taking on one of the powerhouses of the Eastern Conference. The hometown crowd erupted in cheers as the new arrivals of Evgeni Malkin, Steven Stamkos and PK Subban arrived at center ice. The game was very close for the most part, with the Flames and Penquins spliting two goals a piece at the end of the second period.

That is, until Evgeni Malkin decided to put the game away from his former team. Within the span of five minutes, the Flames scored four goals to seal the deal, 6-2. Evgeni Malkin scored two goals, and Stamkos added a goal and an assist. Jay Bouwmester added a rare goal of his own, and the other goals were scored by David Moss and Cory Sarich. Miikka Kiprusoff had two goals scored against him, one from Sidney Crosby, and had a very good save percentage of .957% PK Subban, who was largely ignored by the media due to the more prestigous arrivals of Steven Stamkos and Evgeni Malkin, led the game with 9 hits.

The Flames head to Missouri take on the Blues next.

Flames head to St. Louis, slip past Blues

The Flames headed to Missouri to play their first road game of the season, and the Blues stood in the way of victory. The Blues came to play, but by the time the buzzer sounded for the end of the 1st period, they found themselves in a 2-1 hole. Things would only get worse for St. Louis, as in the middle of the 2nd Jerome Iginla scored his second goal of the game. Many people were ready to count the Blues out, but they scored two straight goals to tie the game 3-3 in the middle of the 3rd. Nearing the end of the game, the physical play of the Flames and Blues made it look like the game would be settled in overtime, but Curtis Glenncross settled the score with a few minutes left in the game with his second goal of the game as well. The Blues attacked viciously, but Miikka Kipprusoff fended of the Blues attackers and the Flames took it 4-3.

Steven Stamkos continues his points streak, adding an assist in this game, and he has had a point in every game so far (including preseason). P.K. Subban and Olli Jokinen added assists themselves. The Flames move to 2-0-0, and take on the Canadiens in Montreal next.

Good luck.. the trades seem a little unrealistic, but to each their own. Hopefully Stamkos does wonders for you. I'd love to have him on any team I have or watch.

Yeah, the Stamkos trade was highway robbery, but I paid for it getting Malkin. P.K. has also been great. The game wants me to stick him in the AHL! Screw that, he has been better than Jay!
