Blues Look to Get Back on Track

In an attempt to turn their deflated hockey club around, the St. Louis Blues have announced the hiring of Ken Hitchcock as head coach as the team heads into the 2011-2012 team. It's been a rough few years for Blues fans. The team has made the playoffs just once (2008-09) since the lockout, where it made a quick first round exit, being swept by the Vancouver Canucks. Considering the fact that St. Louis made the playoffs every year from 1980-2004, this recent slump was quite unexpected. The Blues have brought in a proven winner in Ken Hitchcock, to help guide a strong core of young players towards their goal of a Stanley Cup.

Rinne Unstoppable as Preds are 2-0

The Blues had plenty of chances tonight, but star netminder Pekka Rinne stood on his head multiple times to give the Preds an easy 3-1 win in St. Louis. Penalties were a big issue tonight, as the Blues were penalized 7 times during the game.

Blues Dominate Calgary For 1st Win

Jaroslav Halak picked up a shutout in his first start of the year, and Jason Arnott had 3 points leading the Blues to an easy 3-0 victory. St. Louis was all over Calgary in the 1st period, out shooting them 16-7. While the Flames were able to put up more pressure as the game went on, Halak stood his ground and the Blues were able to keep most shots outside of the slot. Backes short handed goal (Video Below Boxscore) was one of the flukiest all time in the NHL, and Kipper is still furious about it. Backes flipped the puck out of the zone, landing it a few feet in front of the net minder. Kipper misplayed the puck, making it 3-0 and effectively ending the game. The Blues will look to start a winning streak Thursday when they visit Dallas (0-2-0)

Pronger done in Philly

Some strange news coming out of Philly today, as the Flyers have waived veteran blue-liner Chris Pronger. Pronger, 37, was picked up by the New York Rangers. He has a deal which runs through 2016-17 and is valued at 4.92 Million per year. Philly fans have to be going nuts after hearing that news.

Halak Shines in 2nd Straight Shutout

Can anyone score on Jaro Halak? That was the question being passed around the press box tonight in Dallas. Halak recorded his 2nd shutout in as many games tonight, this time facing 47 shots from a slumping Stars team. For the first 39 minutes of the game, it was all Dallas. The Blues were hemmed in their own zone, just trying to survive the constant Star pressure. As the 2nd period wound down, the Blues took a 3 on 2 rush the other way, and after a nifty pass by Chris Stewart, Andy McDonald was able to slide a backhand home to break the tie. St. Louis is now 2-1, and play next on Saturday in San Jose.

Marleau Crushes Blues
The Shutout streak for Jaroslav Halak has finally ended, and then an avalanche of goals followed. The Sharks scored 7 times on 30 shots in a 7-1 blowout of the Blues. Patrick Marleau led the way for San Jose, recording 5 points and a +4. Chris Stewart was a -4 for St. Louis, and their top line continues to struggle finding the net.
