NASHVILLE, TN - The Nashville Predators (3-0-0) once again came back from a 3-1 deficit and this time the home crowd was there to witness it, scoring four unanswered goals en route to a 5-3 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes (1-2-0).

Both teams struggled to get the offense going early on as Pekka Rinne and Mike Smith both held their ground in the beginning half of the first period. But Phoenix struck first 13 minutes in, as Taylor Pyatt whipped a wrist shot past Rinne and gave Phoenix the 1-0 lead. The Preds' however would answer as Paul Gaustad created a turnover himself and blasted a slap shot past Smith's glove side, tying the game at 1-1 which would stay the same at the end of the 1st period.

Phoenix got it going early on in the second period as on the power-play, Martin Hanzal recovered his own rebound shot and slipped one past under Rinne's glove, extending the lead for the Coyotes 2-1. After another penalty committed by the Predators, a double-minor by Patric Hornqvist, Hanzal once again was credited with a goal after his shot bounced off Shea Weber's leg and past the unsuspecting Rinne, extending the lead to 3-1.

But like against the Blues, the Predators struck only 17 seconds later as after Hanzal committed a slashing penalty on his credited goal on Weber, Andrei Kostitsyn found Colin Wilson across the ice and Wilson put the puck past Smith after the beautiful feed from the older Kostitsyn brother, cutting the lead to 3-2. And just like that again... 32 seconds later, Andrei got a wide open rebound from his own shot and easily shot it past Smith, tying the game just like that 3-3. Two goals in a span of 49 seconds and the Predators were right back in the game.

In the third and final period, the Predators took the lead for the first time the whole night as Andrei Kostitsyn once again flashed some skill and flipped a backhand past Smith, giving Nashville the lead 4-3 and sending the Bridgestone Arena into a frenzy. And with good goaltending from Rinne and a empty net goal from Sergei Kostitsyn, the Predators once again comeback from a two-goal deficit and win the game. Like the St. Louis game, Nashville showed heart and gritiness after being down 3-1 and it seems early on in the season that getting a comfortable lead over the Nashville Predators... may never be comfortable.

The Predators stay home and get a day off be returning to action on Saturday to face the New Jersey Devils (2-0-1), their first inter-conference foe of the year.

NASHVILLE, TN - The Nashville Predators (3-1-0) suffered their first defeat of the season to the hands of the New Jersey Devils (3-0-1), 4-3. On a negative note, the Predators suffered two injuries tonight, Mike Fisher and David Legwand, and neither returned.

The scoring began late in the first period after a relatively goalie-dominated first period, as Sergei Kostitsyn converted on a wide-open rebound shot from Jordin Tootoo, giving Nashville the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. However, New Jersey answered back in the way of Illya Kovalchuk, who grabbed a turnover in the Predators zone and whipped a fastball past Rinne, tying the game at 1-1.

But the Predators answered back late in the second period as Jordin Tootoo found a loose puck in front of the net and fired a backhand past Martin Brodeur, giving Nashville the lead once more, 2-1, into the second intermission. It was then the Devils came out in the third period... and simply exploded.

It all started with an early power play in the third period and rookie sensation Adam Larsson scored his first career NHL goal, shooting blocker-side and tying the game at 2-2. Barely four minutes later, New Jersey used that momentum and David Clarkson deflected a shot in front of the net, going past the unsuspecting Rinne and giving the Devils a stunning 3-2 lead before the Nashville crowd could comprehend what had just happened in the first five minutes of the period.

The Devils weren't done however as Steve Bernier got a beautiful backhand feed from Travis Zajac and slipped it past Rinne once more, extending the Devils' lead to 4-2 and essentially clinching the game. With a minute and a half left, Paul Gaustad, filling in the first line for the injured Fisher, found a loose puck in front of the frantic traffic in front, shooting past Brodeur and cutting the lead to 4-3.

But the Predators could not tie the game after that despite a frantic last minute desperation attempt to tie the game from Nashville, including a shot from Matthew Halischuk hitting the post. The Devils held on for their third win of the season and also handing Nashville it's first defeat of the season.

The Predators will now travel to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and face the Oilers (0-1-2), which will start a three-game road trip that will stay in Canada throughout. Mike Fisher and David Legwand will be examined tomorrow on Sunday for their injuries.

Re: Capturing the Central | Nashville Predators (NHL 12)

Nashville News & Notes
*** Mike Fisher and David Legwand have been medically cleared to play against Vancouver on Thursday despite early reports suggesting they would both be out for near two weeks. Legwand will wear a facemask on his helmet to help protect his injured jaw.

*** Gabriel Bourque left the ice last night in Nashville's overtime loss to Edmonton and an MRI confirmed he suffered a strained hamstring. The injury, however, should not keep Bourque out for long, but he will miss the Vancouver game and most likely the next game against Calgary on Saturday. Brandon Yip will replace him in the lineup.
