Even though most people didn't predict New Jersey to be a top team this season they predicted them to be better than what the current standing show. The Devils are currently sitting in 14th place in the eastern conference after a really tough month for them. The problem for the Devils so far has been in all departments really. The offense has been mediocre, the defense has not worked either and the goaltending has been up and down. Luckily only nine games has been played of the season so there is plenty of time for the Devils to improve their game and advance in the standings.
The Devils started the month with some nice wins and everyone in New Jersey thought they were going to start climbing in the standings. The fourth game of the month changed all that as the Devils went on a nine game losing streak. Halfway through the month New Jersey got the opportunity to pick up Paul Gaustad off waivers and took it with the hopes of him being able to help turn things around for the Devils. As the month was coming to an end Zubrus was finally back from an injury and New Jersey managed to end the losing streak and win the two last games of the month.
