Dallas Stars Draft 2012:
#11 (1st round) Leroux De Ruyter (RW, 79 A B B) SNP
1.93 m, 99.9 kg, 18 yr, Handedness: Right, Canada.
This was a draft where there 15 great picks in the 1st round. We wanted a RW and we got him. We also could have picked centers Allen, Thompson, White and RW Grigorenko, but we think De Ruyter was the best fit for us. He will get a chance in the NHL, and has signed a 3 year entry deal.
#41 (2nd round) Jason Houde (LW, 68 A B- B-) TWF
1.91 m, 87.2 kg, 19 yr, Handedness: Left, Canada.
He was the best pick available. We really where not in need of a LW, but we couldn't pass up on Houde. We think he is a strong and big TWF and will be a 2nd or 3rd liner in the future.
#47 (2nd round) Artur Gavrus (C, 69 B- B B) PLY
1.80 m, 75.8 kg, 18 yr, Handedness: Left, Belarus.
We got some good centers and talents in the center already, but he will be a good center in the future. I think he has good hands. But it will be a big guess if he will ever make the NHL.
#62 (3rd round) Dylan Kuczek (D, 68 C B- B) DFD
1.88 m, 97.6 kg, 18 yr, Handedness: Left, Canada.
Kuczek is a strong and big stay at home defenceman. He will maybe have a chance to be a 5/6th spot defenceman.
#71 (3rd round) Martin Frk (RW, 72 B B- B) PLY
1.86 m, 86.7 kg, 18 yr, Handedness: Right, Czech Republic.
I think Frk was a steal in the 3rd round. This playmaking RW has good hands and has the ability to be a top six RW. I think that when Frk will has a good development, he will be a great linemate for a good sniper and a PWF.
#125 (5th round) Jan Kána (LW, 714 B- C- C) PLY
1.78 m, 80.8 kg, 20 yr, Handedness: Left, Czech Republic
Kána was the smallest player selected and a big question mark when selected. He will problably not make it in NHL.
#131 (5ht round) Jirí Puhoný (LW, 72 C C C) TWF
1.86 m, 85.4 kg, 20 yr, Handedness: Left, Czech Republic
Puhoný is a TWF on the left wing that will be a good AHL guy, on the 3rd/4rd line.
#152 (6th round) Jean-Philippe Mathieu (D, 70 C C C) OFD
1.80 m, 81.7 kg, 21 yr, Handedness: Right, Canada
We needed some OFD in our roster, but Mathieu doesn't seem to be good enough to make the NHL. He was the oldest player selected by the Dallas Stars in 2012.
#178 (6th round) Jordan Auld (D, 68 B- C B) OFD
1.91 m, 89.4 kg, 19 yr, Handedness: Right, Canada
We still needed a OFD to add to our roster. This big guy can turn in the big steal of this draft. He has the potential to be a good defenceman. A good special teams player in the future.
#191 (7th round) Mac McDonnell (RW, 67 C C C) TWF
1.83 m, 86.7 kg, 20 yr, Handedness: Right, USA
This long RW will not make the NHL.
#??? Malcolm Subban (G, B- C C)
A little disappointed by him, and he will most likely not be better than the other goaltenders already at Dallas.
GM Loonstra commented on the draft, that the Dallas Stars has had a good draft. Dallas got his RW top talent(L. De Ruyter), who will play with Benn/Eriksson and Couture/Johansen. Also the talents Frk, Houde, Gavrus will be NHLers in the future. Auld will be a dark horse and will maybe be a great steal in the 6th round.
