Re: Seb170455 NY Rangers (NHL 13)

Die Bild-Zeitung from Germany had an interview with New York Rangers GM Sebastiaan Jansen from the Netherlands. This was the first time GM Jansen went public since he took over the GM job from Glen Sather. In this interview Jansen did not give us any insight on the replacement of the GM in NY. He did give us his view on the future of the Rangers. This are the most interesting things GM Jansen had to say to Die Bild-Zeitung.

Everyone, who follows the NHL and the NY Rangers, was suprised when president James Nolan announced that you were hired for the position of GM. How did it come to your signing?
A string of unexpected and strange events led to my signing here. It's very complicated, but for me it was a complete surprise. But now I am passed the surprise and are now fully aware that I have to battle against all prejudices. It's no easy task I have taken upon me, but I will do all in MY power to make my signing a success.

Do you have a plan for the future or is short term planning your strategy?
I try to be a long term GM and secure a good future for our franchise. But sometimes short term decisions have to be made. I will certainly not make blockbuster trades that will endanger the future of the NY Rangers.

Are you happy with your staff and players?
I'm very excited when I see our roster and staff. Tortorella has done a good job so far and I confident that he will remain doing this. When I take a look at our team roster I have faith that this team will be in the playoffs this year and will even make a push to the Finals. Goaltending looks great with Lundqvist in net. At our backcourt we have reliable people like Staal, McDonagh, Del Zotto, Girardi and lately acquired Barker. We have 3 aces on our first line. Gaborik is a true goalscorer. Richards is our leader up front. The acquisition of Nash was spectacular. He is a goalscorer, passer and knows the physical side of our hockey game. We are excited that we were able to acquire some young guns for the future (Forsberg and Teravainen). I am really excited when I take a look at our roster.

Total blow out against San Jose. In the first period Ryan McDonagh received a major penalty for checking from behind. It was also a game misconduct. This was a hard blow. Our best defender gone for the game and a major penalty. San Jose scored 3 times in that penalty and the game was over!

The worst thing that could happen was getting injuries. Brad Richards was injured. He has to have elbow surgery and is out 2 to 3 months. He is expected to be back 12th January 2013.

The Rangers had their revenge tonight. After a awful game against San Jose, they did a good job against the Eastern Champions of ast year. After the banner was raised NYR was in the spotlights all the way. The facts: Kreidler scored his 3rd, a 5 on 3 power play goal, a shorthanded goal from Boyle and almost a great shut out by King Henrik.
