Detroit (1-2-0) vs. St. Louis (3-0-0)
Scottrade Center
St. Louis, MO
September 27rd, 2011

Detroit picked up another disappointing preseason loss Tuesday, this time against the St. Louis Blues. The Blues are widely regarded to be one of the better teams in the Western Conference and they proved it against the Red Wings.

"We play a slow methodical offense, sometimes it works well and then sometimes the defense can stifle us. Tonight was one of those nights where St. Louis shut our offense down," said coach James Taylor after the game.

St. Louis would be the first team to make it to the scoreboard. N. Nikitin would throw a slapshot into the back of the net after receiving the puck from a faceoff. Later, in the second period B. Jackman would put another slapshot into the back of the net to add onto the differential.

Detroit would try to mount a comeback but sloppy passing and penalties would lead to the Red Wings' demise as they couldn't get many of their offensive possessions rolling.

Detroit will conclude the preseason Thursday against hated rival the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago (1-2-0) vs. Detroit (1-3-0)
Joe Lewis Arena
Detroit, MI
September 27rd, 2011

Detroit closed out the preseason with a tough loss against the rival Chicago Blackhawks. Both teams would play a violent, physical game with lots of penalties until the final buzzer where the victors would be declared and Chicago would take that crown. J. Morin would put up the only goal of the game in the middle of the last period by hitting a quick wrist shot off a deflected shot in front of the goalie.

"We played really well tonight, we played them very evenly. Even though we didn't get the W, we are really looking forward to the beginning of the season next week," said coach James Taylor after the loss.

Another note to be considered would be that of star player Pavel Datsyuk. Datsyuk was diagnosed with a fractured elbow about a week ago after slamming into the boards on a missed check. The star center played tonight despite the injury to his elbow.

I felt pretty good about my elbow and I got the okay from both the doc and coach to play, while I might not be at 100% I'm not going to miss a chance to be on the ice," said Datsyuk in the post game conference.

Detroit is now finished with the preseason will open the season next week against Ottawa at home.
