Talbot Heading To Leafs, McClement Heading To Flyers

Toronto -- The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to a deal that will send tough forward Max Talbot along with left winger Tom Sestito and a 2013 fourth round draft pick in exchange for defenseman Chris Campoli and center Jay McClement. The deal was announced this afternoon at a news conference at the Air Canada Center. Talbot, who previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, is known as one of the league’s toughest grinders and is expected to provide a physical boost to Toronto’s lineup following the trade that sent tough guy Mike Brown to the Carolina Hurricanes earlier this week. The deal comes just one day after a tough overtime loss against the Winnipeg Jets. The Flyers get two veteran players who will both look to stabilize the young Flyers who currently sit in last place in the Eastern Conference. Sportsnet hockey columnist Stephen Brunt gives his point of view:

The Talbot deal just didn’t work out in Philly and I think it’s smart to acquire Campoli and McClement. Both players that the Flyers are getting are right in their prime and all they gave up was Talbot, Sestito and a draft pick. Sestito doesn’t have much upside left in his career so this is a pretty even and balanced out trade for two teams who are both looking to fill in their needs.
The Leafs take on the Buffalo Sabres at home at the Air Canada Center in two nights and you can catch the game on Hockey Night in Canada on CBC.

Leafs Winger Lupul Suffers Broken Foot

Toronto -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that first line left winger Joffrey Lupul has suffered a broken foot and will not be able to play through the injury. Coach Randy Carlyle announced that second line forward James Van Riemsdyk will move up onto the first line and take Lupul’s spot. He will play alongside the likes of center David Krejci and right wing sniper Phil Kessel. The former Anahiem Duck has been off to a good start so far this season with a good amount of goals and quite a few assists. Here is what Joffrey Lupul himself had to say about the injury:

All I can do now is do my best to speed up my recovery, stay in shape, make sure I don’t suffer any setbacks and just get back to playing hockey when I get better.
The news of the injury comes just one day after the Toronto Maple Leafs made a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers to acquire winger Maxime Talbot. It is suspected that Talbot will take Van Riemsdyk’s spot on the second line. When coach Randy Carlyle was asked about it, he refused to release a comment on the potential lineup.
