Bettman decides in a surprising move, it's time for a fantasy draft
July 27, 2012
Gary Bettman decided today that his NHL needed to restart the league from scratch after rough postseason ratings in which no one cared. He announced that all 30 teams will be participating in a fantasy draft in order to re-distribute the talent. All of the players will be available to draft. The draft order will be randomized and this should give a fair shot to every team to be able to hand craft their new rosters and we should see talent being evenly distributed. Also, the players will continue to keep their contracts heading into the season which is why the NHLPA agreed to this. The players seem excited about the idea and this could lead to new and exciting games.
The order of the fantasy draft has been finalized. Here it is:
The Wild have the 10th pick which means they should be able to draft a high end player there. It's a snake draft in which the 30th pick also has the 31st pick so that it is more fair. We will have full results of the draft when it is completed.
Wild nab Tavares with first pick, lots of youth on the team
August 1st, 2012
The NHL completed its fantasy draft today in which the Wild made 32 picks along with the rest of the teams. They drafted a lot of guys in the later rounds with a lot of upside, and it's also not surprising to see them pick up Mikael Granlund again as they have always been really high on him. Their first pick was used on John Tavares, however, GM Chuck Fletcher looked a little disappointed as Jonathan Toews was taken 1 pick before him by the Devils. However, Tavares is a nice consolation prize being on 21 and being a first line center with the ability to score, it was hard to pass him up. Below is how the draft went down:

We assume that there will be some free agent signings coming up, so we will announce them when they become available to us.
After many hours of negotiations, the Wild has agreed to terms with four free agents not picked up in the fantasy draft. The Wild signed Raffi Torres, Anthony Stewart, Matt Hunwick, and Joe Corvo to fill out their roster. The Wild also traded Jamie Langenbrunner for Montreal's 2nd round pick in 2013 as it was just too good of a deal to have more ammo in case a move needs to be made at the deadline. The Wild also have not named a captain yet, however, they will be carrying 3 A's. They will be Ryan O'Reilly, Brenden Morrow, and Mike Fisher. A captain could be wait to be named for a year, or it could happen halfway through the year, coach Mike Yeo would not name a captain at the start of the year.
Here are the lines that will be opening up against Colorado at home:
