Senators Acquire D Smid from Oilers

OTTAWA -- New Sens GM Tyler Spencer makes yet another move only 4 games in, this one with the Edmonton Oilers. The Sens get D Ladislav Smid, and D Garrett Stafford from Edmonton for D Mark Borowiecki, juniors prospect Jakub Culek and a 2014 2nd Round Pick.

The Sens were rumored to get Smid in the Heatley talks with Edmonton a few years ago and when the new GM got into town, GM of the Oilers called wanting to resume talks.

"I offered Benoit and Culek and the 2nd but was declined. He came back with Borowiecki, Culek and the 2nd while sending back Stafford to play in the AHL for us" said Tyler.

Smid will play with Karlsson on the top line, meaning Gonchar/Phillips will make up the 2nd line. Cowen and Methot will form a hard hitting 3rd D line and D Patrick Wiercioch was sent back to Binghamton to make room for Smid. Garret Stafford will also be sent to the farm.

- D Erik Karlsson left the game with a head injury and did not return. After the game it was noted that he would miss the next 6-7 weeks with a Concussion.
