Much of the Same, Devils Downed in Home Opener

Another night, another multi-goal loss for the Devils, this time at the hands of the rested New York Islanders. The Isles jumped out front early on a Michael Grabner goal, but the Devils would tie up the score before the end of the frame on a beautiful individual effort by Jacob Josefson, who took the puck away in the corner and beat Nabokov back hand far side for his first.

The Isles jumped out two goals, 3-1 in the second on scores by Frans Nielsen and Casey Cizikas before Damien Brunner would add his first to pull the score within 1. Matt Moulson would erase all doubts late in the third when he took away a poor pass at the point and scored short handed, dropping the Devils to 0-2-0.

Devils Snap Skid Behind Schnieder's Great Outing
This was the type of play that made New Jersey trade for Cory Schnieder. The goalie stopped 23 of 24 shots against to help the Devils beat the Edmonton Oilers, in Edmonton 3-1, and to break the two game losing streak they were on to start the season.

Michael Ryder scored his first goal as a Devil midway through the first on a powerplay, and Alexei Ponikarovsky scored what proved to be the winner with just six seconds left in the period, as Patrik Elias added an empty netter with 10 seconds left to seal the win for New Jersey.

Elias Shines in Devils Comeback Win
Patrik Elias leads the Devils in points all-time, and showed why scoring two clutch goals to propel the Devils to a second straight victory, this time over previously undefeated Vancouver. This was a much anticipated battle, with Cory Schneider being traded to the Devils in the offseason, but Martin Brodeur got the start, and faced only 12 shots in the win.

Ryan Clowe added his first goal as a Devil on a pretty assist in front from Adam Henrique to give the Devils a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Canucks would score twice in the next 5 minutes, taking a 2-1 lead into the third before Elias scored the game tying goal early in the 3rd, and the winner early in overtime.

Devils Ride Lucky Bounce to Win
As Alexei Ponikarovsky threw the puck at the net, the last thing he thought would happen would be that it would bounce of Dainius Zubrus and past Mikka Kipprusoff, but that's exactly what happened, giving the Devils a 3-2 lead. They would not relinquish it.

Despite being outshot 33-11 after the first period the Devils held firm behind the play of Martin Brodeur, and got the timely goal in the third which gave them the lead. By far this was Brodeur's best performance of the season. Michael Ryder would add an empty netter for good measure as the Devils won their third straight.

Devils Roll, Henrique Scores First of the Year
Adam Henrique got paid this summer, and he finally paid dividends for the Devils, scoring his first goal of the year late in the third. The Devils found themselves trailing 1-0 headed to the second, but Ryan Carter slammed in a rebound off a Rostislav Olesz shot.

Damien Brunner would deflect in a Marek Zidlicky shot from the point midway through the third to give the Devils the lead, before Patrik Elias tipped in another Zidlicky shot, and Henrique added his to finish off the Lightning.
