Tyler Myers welcome to Florida
Florida Panthers Send: Ian White
Buffalo Sabres Send: Tyler Myers
Reasoning: Yes you've read correctly. Myers was recently signed long-term for the Sabres but things have shifted drastically for the club. Simply, the Sabres did not want Myers services for some strange reason. Is it a hidden injury that hasn't come to light? Is it that they don't feel Myers will become a Top 2 defensemen and have overpaid for him at 5.500M for years to come? Regardless, a crazy deal. Maybe just maybe Myers will provide some of the defensive prowess that Cyclone was looking for in his guys. The story broke late, at around 4:00 AM. The question will come whether the Sabres knew something the rest of the league didn't, or Panthers get away with highway robbery.
Ceci joins Monahan in second blockbuster
Florida Panthers Send: Ron Hainsey, Panthers 2014 1st
Ottawa Senators Send: Cody Ceci
Reasoning: Another veteran defensemen, this one actually seems to make quite a bit more sense though. The Senators actually look like a strong competitor and apparently they want to compete with Spezza right now. Can Hainsey really though put them at that next peak point? That needs to be seen, but things look very interesting. The Panthers get another young stud defensemen to pair up with Darnell Nurse. The main concern fans/analysts around the league have is that you were winning games, why break up the veteran defensive core to make a move for the future since you really don't know if these guys will pan out. Also, throwing in your 1st rounder this year? Very gutsy call considering you have basically told everyone that you plan on making the playoffs this year and anything less is a failure. Regardless, Sean Monahan and Cody Ceci are reunited, this time in Sunny Florida.
Grabner shipped from Islanders
Florida Panthers Send: Nick Bjugstad
New York Islanders Send: Michael Grabner
Reasoning: Another original Panthers prospect gone, does Cyclone not like the look of the AHL youth system? Could be, but Cyclone stated in an interview shortly after the trade was announced that this was a NHL win-now move. Grabner provides exactly what the Panthers bottom 6 was lacking, speed. Grabner should be the one to replace Joey Crabb/Bobby Butler who also will probably be traded fairly soon.
6'8" footer traded for Joey Crabb
Florida Panthers Send: Joey Crabb
Buffalo Sabres: John Scott
Reasoning: A mere depth move, the reason Cyclone did this was to get some size in the 4th line, with Scott now the Panthers can play as physical as ever. Not to mention, they get rid of Joey Crabb, whats there to lose really?
