Re: Returning Lord Stanley to Broad Street(NHL14)

Holmgren Out, Former Flyers Captain Chris Pronger In

Philadelphia, PA - Hours after the start of training camp, Paul Holmgren announced that he would be stepping down as Flyers GM due to personal reasons and former captain Chris Pronger would take his place as General Manager, much to the surprise of the former All-star defenseman. "I must say, this caught even me by surprise." Pronger told the media during his conference. "Paul didn't even make any kind of notion that he was stepping down, let alone name me his successor.

Mr.Pronger, what kind of manager do you think you will be? Daring trades and blockbusting deals or slowly through the draft and developing players?
A little bit of both, more or less depends on where our team is at. I definitely want to let our young players develop and in this league you need younger talent to step up. You're seeing more teams develop their own prospects instead of utilizing the free agent market/trading.

Mr.Pronger do you think the goaltending issues of the Flyers will be solved this season?
Both goalies have one year deals and I expect a healthy competition between the two for the #1 job and hopefully one or both impress us enough to extend their deals

Who is your biggest prospect in the system?
That's a tough call, but I'd have to go with Scott Laughton. He was very impressive last year during his 9-game trial period and during this past preseason. Robert Hagg, Nick Cousins and Samuel Morin aren't far behind

Re: Returning Lord Stanley to Broad Street(NHL14)

Flyers Season Preview
Key Additions: Ray Emery(FA), Vincent Lecavalier(FA), Mark Streit(FA)
Key Losses: Daniel Briere(Buyout), Simon Gagne(FA), Ilya Bryzgalov(Buyout)

Goaltending: - Goaltending will once again be a x-factor for the Flyers. Ilya Bryzgalov was bought out before free agency and former Flyer Ray Emery was brought back in after an exceptional 17-1 season with Chicago. He was brought in to provide competition for Steve Mason, whom the Flyers aquired near the trade deadline last year to give Bryzgalov some breathing room. Look for both goalies to get a fair share of starts and for Coach Peter Laviolette to ride the hot one come late season. In Adirondack, Yann Danis was signed to provide some stability to the Phantoms. Cal Heeter wasn't ready to take over the reigns as an AHL goalie and may see a back-up role. The only prospect in the Flyers organization is Anthony Stolarz. Stolarz had an interesting year, starting off riding the bench with the University of Nebraska-Omaha to leading the London Knights to a Memorial Cup berth. He has potential but is a long-shot.

Steve Mason25794.0Y$1.3M1
Ray Emery30803.0W$1.4M1
Yann Danis32722.5W$0.6M1
Cal Heeter24642.5R$0.9M1
Anthony Stolarz19624.0R$0.9M3

DEFENSE: - Last year was a rough year on the defenseman. A ridiculous amount of injuries led to 13 defenseman playing for the Flyers during the shortened lock-out year. 38-year old Kimmo Timonen has returned for another year and will lead this group. Braydon Coburn struggled a lot last year to get in any kind of groove, while injury prone Andrej Meszaros was out a majority of the season and failed to get in any groove. There is a silver lining to last year and that was the breakout year Erik Gustafsson had. He had a surprising run at the World Championships with Sweden, but will have to work hard to secure a spot. There are rumors of Andrej Meszaros or Nicklas Grossmann being on the trade block to relieve some cap. In Adirondack, the potential is there with Mark Alt, Robert Hagg, Brandon Manning, Oliver Lauridsen and Shayne Gostisbehere. At least one will hit their potential of an NHL Defenseman if not more. Samuel Morin is the only prospect playing in the CHL and will till he is 20.

Braydon Coburn28854.0W$4.1M3
Andrej Meszaros27854.0Y$3.7M1

FORWARDS: - Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek lead this deadly forward corp. Philadelphia's Top 9 was arguably one of the top groups in the league last season and improved on that with the addition of Vincent Lecavalier to replace Daniel Briere, who was bought out. Peter Laviolette has a variety of lines he can run with Matt Read, Sean Couturier, Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds vying for top minutes. Adam Hall, Zac Rinaldo, and Maxime Talbot anchor a gritty fourth line that will cause trouble for opposing teams. The only spot open on the lineup is a 2nd winger for the third line. Look for Tye McGinn or Michael Raffl to be the front runners for that spot, unless Eric Wellwood has recovered from his horrific skate accident last year. A dark horse will be Jason Akeson and Petr Straka, both have shown flashes of offensive skills and have improved their 2-way game.

Ray Emery Named Starter, Opening Night Lines Announced
Philadelphia, PA - Coach Peter Laviolette announced yesterday that Ray Emery would be the starting goalie for Flyers season opener October 2nd vs the Toronto Maple Leafs. "Ray was the better goalie during the preseasons so he's our starter. Both goalies could be our #1 goalie, but we can only have one in net and Ray gives us a better chance to win." Ray Emery went 3-1 in the preseason while Steve Mason failed to get a single win in three games.
