WINGS LOOK TO REBOUND AFTER COLLAPSE IN PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR.

Detroit, Mi /(June 23rd, 2013) - Last season Detroit was one win away from going to the Western Conference Finals leading the Chicago Blackhawks three games to one. Then the ice came out from under them and lost in overtime in game seven to the eventual stanley cup champions.

Head Coach Mike Babcock stated at the end of the playoffs last season he was going to watch the rest of the playoffs and find out what got those teams further then the Wings did and try to incorporate those things that he and his coaching staff would see.

Going into the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in New Jersey, The Red Wings looked at the future of the team when they have players that may soon retire from the team in the near future. Detroit's first pick in the draft was LW Hunter Shinkaruk, The 5'10" 160lbs winger was rated one of the top prospects in the game. "I believe Hunter is going to thrive in Grand Rapids and here in Detroit. He is overall just a good player." said babcock.

Detroit drafted Shinkaruk after entering into a trade with the Nashville Predators that saw Detroit deal LW Drew Miller and RW Tomas Jurco for Nashville's 2014 1st and 2nd round picks. The Red Wings also landed Mattias Ohlund from Tampa Bay in exchange for the 2014 second round pick they acquired in the Nashville deal.

WINGS ADD TWO FREE AGENTS TO TEAM BUT LOSE A FAN FAVORITE.

Detroit, Mi (Sept. 23rd, 2013) - As the Red Wings get set to open up the 2013 - 2014 NHL Preseason they had a very busy off season that saw one player move on while seeing some extra tough guy presence move in.

Detroit was forced to let go of Valtteri Filppula due to a short cap space that they had. While Detroit was able to keep most of who they believe will be the future of Detroit hockey they also went out on the free agent market to pick up some more help at the left wing position where they were lacking the most at.

Detroit went out and picked up Frazer McLaren and Andreas Nodl from the free agent market to help out. McLaren is a known tough guy who was with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. This move alone shows that Detroit is looking to be a tougher team not only defensively but also being able to bang it out when needed to as well.

Detroit gets set to get things rolling in the 2013-2014 NHL Preseason tonight when they drop the puck at the Joe Louis Arena against the Florida Panthers at 8:00pm.

        WINGS BATTLE PAST PANTHERS 2 - 0

Detroit, MI (Sept. 23rd 2013) - Darren Helm scored the game winning goal early in the first period and Henrik Zetterberg added a empty net goal with 00:18 left to go to give the Detroit Red Wings a 2 - 0 victory over the Florida Panthers at the Joe Louis Arena tonight.

Detroit got on the scoreboard at the 7:51 mark of the first period when Darren Helm took a pass from Todd Bertuzzi in the slot and fired home a one timer past the Florida netminder to give Detroit a 1 - 0 lead. Bertuzzi was not done being on the score sheet though as minutes later he dropped the gloves and faced off with John McFarland and both were sent off for fighting.

While not scoring happened in the second period, Florida was given a later power play that they were not able to score on. The final goal of the night came on an empty netter by Henrik Zetterberg to make the score 2 - 0 and that would be the final. Jimmy Howard made all 13 stops tonight to secure the shut out for Detroit. The Wings now head on the road to face off with the Boston Bruins on the 25th.

          Good luck with your Wings.

Did you have a good draft, satisfied?

Why did you turn the waivers off?

I have never been a big fan of the Waiver wire. Trades and Free Agency is just a better system. Draft wise I think I did pretty good getting Shinkaruk with the teams first pick and helping out the left wing side of the puck.

Surprised it isn't with the Vipers

I like the picks of Shinkaruk and Erne. Shinkaruk screams 'Red Wing' player to me for some ungodly reason, and while losing Filps is tough, adding 'character guys' like McLaren and Nodl is something the Red Wings would do. Now they'll be on the team for fifteen years and become multiple winners of the Stanley Cup, just like those overrated bums like Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby.

Only 2 goals on the Panthers? HW would have been ashamed. HW would have had 2 by the first five minutes *clicks*

No Vipers just yet. I tried one but it just didn't feel right or going any further then one year so I took a break from it to start a Wings Dynasty. I like the pick up of Shinkaruk as well, Think he will do some good for the team.

As for goal scoring, Trying my hand at Manual shot this season on superstar with True Broadcast and finding out it's alot tougher then it seems...LOL

HOWARD DOES IT AGAIN, EVEN IF IT'S PRESEASON.

Boston, MA (Sept. 25th, 2013) - Jimmy Howard comes up with his second straight shut out of the preseason stopping all 18 shots fired at him while Bertuzzi and Nyquist scored the games only goals in a 2 - 0 win over Boston in Beantown tonight.

Nothing really to talk about in the first two periods of the game as both goaltenders were on their game tonight but midway through the third the Wings broke the scoreless tie when Darren Helm circled the net and passed it out in front to Todd Bertuzzi who was able to fire a wrist shot through the pads of Nicklas Svedberg to give Detroit a 1 - 0 lead. Detroit would then kill off a Boston power play and get one of their own with 51.1 left in regulation and after boston faught the first :20 of it Detroit freed up the puck and Gustav Nyquist broke from the pack and fired one into the empty net on the power play to give Detroit their second 2 - 0 win of the preseason.

Detroit now heads back home to the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit as they get ready to face off with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sept. 27th with an 8:00pm face-off.

LEAFS BLOW THROUGH HOCKEYTOWN, WINGS LOSE 3 - 0.

Detroit, Mi (Sept. 27th, 2013) - James Reimer stopped all 20 shots as Toronto scored twice in the third period to left the Maple Leafs to a 3 - 0 win over the Detroit Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena tonight.

Toronto scored the first of their three goals late in the first period when Joe Colbrone scored his first of the preseason on a cross crease pass from Rich Hamilton to give Toronto a 1 - 0 lead.

With no goals in the second period, the fans did see Detroit starting to make a strong come back and with alot of defensive play and big hits but James Reimer was up to the task all night long.

In the third, It was a penalty called on Niklas Kronwall for elbowing that sent Toronto to the games only power play and they would capitalize on it when Mikhail Grabovski scored his second of the preseason to to give Toronto a 2 - 0 lead. Toronto capped off the nights scoring at the 8:08 mark of the third period when a shot from the point was deflected by Carter Ashton and into the back of the net to give Toronto a 3 - 0 lead and that is the way the game would end.

Detroit now falls to 2 - 1 - 0 in the preseason and now starts a two game road trip starting in Tampa Bay Florida with a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on September 29th.

QUICK UPDATE: Not sure what happened to the write up I did yesterday and told me it saves but I lost to Tampa Bay 2 - 1 yesterday. Working on the write up right now for Buffalo. Going to try to get Montreal's games in tonight as well. Going to change from True Broadcast to Classic view for games from now on.
