Mursak Out For A While

Monday nights lose against the Flyers 6-1 was a costly one. Mursak would take a nasty hit from Simmons in the 1st period. His head went down and hit the ice. He would be taken off of the ice and would not return back to the bench. The Red Wings announced today that he would be out with concussion like syndromes and would be out until at least mid march. This is a real blow to the Red Wings line up. He was pared on the 1st line with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Through 33 games Mursak has acquired 18 points. He currently sits 3rd on the team. Drew Miller has been called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins to take 4th line for Detroit.

Nyquist Out, Mantha In

Last night Nyquist would go down with an head injury. He was immediately taken off the ice and would not return. As a precaution the Red Wings are making Nyquist sit out a couple games. Star prospect Anthony Manta will play in his NHL season debut. In 44 games down with the Griffins Mantha has picked up 4 goals and 14 assists. Last year Mantha was named CHL player of the year. He aquired 158 points last year (81 goals, 77 assists). He is one of the most talked about players coming up from Detroit's prospect pool in a long time.

San Jose, Ca-Detroit went in there to win a game and that is what they did. The Red Wings were sitting in 8th place only 1 point from being in 11 or being in 6th. So every game from now on counts. Detroit was lead by the veterans tonight who would bring a much needed 2 points. Datsyuk combined for a total of 3 points (1 goal and 2 assists) and captain Henrik Zetterberg added 1 goal and 1 assist. Z would score the 1st goal, a wrist shot from the point and would slide under Niemi's leg. Detroit would score 2 more goals and end the period up 3 to nil. The Sharks came back and score a pair to only give the Wings a 1 goal lead at the end of the second. Thorton and company would give Howard a run for his money by taking 14 shots on net in the 3rd but Howard would pull out the victory. Detroit notched a couple empty netters near the end.

Game Notes
Pavel Datsyuk hits 900 career points tonight.

Detoit, Mi- The Red Wings were silent on trade day. "We entertained a few offers, mostly from Florida but nothing that wow'd us" said Holland. This has been 2 years in a row now that Detroit has not traded on trade deadline. The Wings were shopping to get a big defensemen but no one took the bite. The Wings have 18 games left of the regular season and are sitting in 8th place.

Brooklyn, NY- Pavel Datsyuk and the 1st line lead the Wings with 3 goals to overcome the Islanders Saturday night. Pavel scored 1 goal and had 2 assists, he would get his 1st goal on a wrister that beat Peters stick side. Zetterberg got the game winning goal from a saucer pass from Datsyuk across the front of the net and one timed it in. The Red Wings peppered Peters all night to combine for 30 shots, 15 coming in the 1st period. Grabner and Sedin both would notch a goal but could the Islanders defense could not hold the 1st line tonight. Detroit moves into 7th place in the conference 1 point behind the Islanders and the Capitals. "This was really a 3 point night for us and we got the W " Babcock said during the post-game conference. (If Detroit would of lost that would have put them 3 points behind the Islanders.)8 of Detroits last 13 games are against teams that currently will make the playoffs.

Nyquist Out Again

For the 2nd time in the last 4 months Nyquist went down with an apparent upper body injury and would not return to the game. Later evaluation confirms that he will be out with a separated should until at least April. Gus has 19 points in 65 games.

Miller who has been off and on healthy scratch all season will fill a winger spot on the 4th line. Drew currently has 7 points in 32 games with a +/- of 2. Miller will take a key role in the penalty kill where he is known to take a lot of blocked shots and can win in the gritty areas.
