Starstruck - A NHL 15 Dallas Stars BaGM

I'm going to be starting a BaGM with the Dallas Stars. The Stars are a very promising young team but they are also in a very tough division. Do they have what it takes to rise to the top?

Due to the limits of NHL 15 BaGM on PS4 I'll be adding a few surprises for this GM Dynasty including a Generational Talent.

I'll attempt to update this franchise using Media Posts and Weekly Updates

    Thanks for Following!

    SLIDERS

I'm a fan of challenging and realistic sliders, in previous versions of the NHL Series I have used variations of OBG's Superstar Sliders which gave me realistic stats and gameplay.

After playtesting I have found a set of sliders I feel is a good representation of what I'm use to. There will be always room for improvement as I tweak them further but this is what I'm going with to start off.

I had a lot of trouble getting the sliders to give me a realistic game on the Xbox One. I found the goalies were just not programmed very well, so I ended up having to put the reaction times on the highest slider and shot accuracy on the lowest slider. It still didn't give me enough realism though, as the game seemed wont to still score too many goals.

But I was letting the AI play itself, so that may have been my problem.

Hope the sliders work well for you (and if they do, I might steal them for my own use on the One ).

                Looking forward to this.

I noticed that as well. It's best to make a sloppy game where the puck is lively that way scoring chances are reduced. So far I've had games that are 3-2, 4-2, 2-1, 3-0 and besides doing what you said I've lowered passing and puck reception ease. Another thing you can do is lower Attribute Effects to 1-2 this will Nerf every players abilities so they score less.

                  Good Luck.

STARS GM FORCED TO STEP DOWN

                    August 26th, 2014
                    Associated Press NHL.com

The Dallas Stars franchise is once again reeling after being told that General Manager Jim Nill will have to step down from his position after only one year due to health reasons. The 56 year old did not disclose what health issues he is facing but inside sources have revealed that he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Nill, hasn't been with the organization long; hired by the Stars in April 2013, Nill's tenure will be remembered by making the blockbuster trade to bring Tyler Seguin into the fold.

In his absence, the VP of Hockey Operations, Mike Modano will take over the responsibilities of the General Manager.

This isn't the first time that health concerns have made headlines for the team. Earlier this summer Rich Peverley announced his retirement after 10 NHL Seasons due to ongoing complications with his irregular heartbeat. The 32 year old had a Cardiac Arrest on March 10th in a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and missed the remainder of the 2013-14 season.

RUSSIAN STARS SPARK FREE AGENCY FRENZY

                      August 31st, 2014
                      Associated Press NHL.com

The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming! That was the news heard across the NHL as 4 Russian Hockey Players won a landmark court case that would see their KHL contracts voided and make them available to speak to other hockey clubs and enter contract negotiations. It is expected that most of the players will make the jump straight to the NHL.

Former KHL superstars Pavel Makorov, Sergei Dragonov, Dimitri Chernov and Alexie Petrov, will all be available to speak to NHL clubs about possible contracts after the court case finalizes later this week. The landmark case has been in the courts for the several months after the four claimed they were forced to resign their current contracts under duress and threats of violence from former team General Manager Vladimir Yenin. Yenin was sentenced to 10 years in jail earlier this year for his involvement with the Russian Mafia and was found guilty of fraud and extortion among other charges.

Although the players names may not be household names for the typical hockey fan, their talent is well known to the pro teams and their scouts. The following is a brief scouting report on each player:

                      Pavel Makorov - (LW) 6'2 190 Age: 24
Makorov is fast and agile. He is perhaps the best goal scorer of the group and possesses and elite wrist shot. He uses his fast acceleration and elite puck handling skills to get by defenders and drive to the net.
                      Comparable to: Taylor Hall

                      Sergei Dragonov - (RW) 6'5 225 Age: 22
Dragonov is big and aggressive. He is a rare breed where typically Russians covet speed and skill. Despite his size, he is fairly mobile and had excellent positioning and manages to get in front of the net, where the majority of his goals are scored. He also has a mean streak and isn't scared to drop the gloves.
                      Comparable to: Milan Lucic

                      Dimitri Chernov - (C) 6'2 210 Age: 22
Chernov is a smooth skating, playmaking Center. He has an extremely high Hockey IQ and uses his speed and creativity to create scoring opportunities for his line mates and plays with a tremendous amount of poise and confidence. As good as Chernov is offensively, he is almost equally as good defensively. His great vision, hockey sense and ability to adapt quickly allow him to play in virtually any type of situation.
                      Comparable to: Matt Duchene

                      Alexie Petrov - (D) 6'3 212 Age: 26
Petrov is an imposing two-way defenseman. He possesses a terrific break out pass and has a high defensive IQ. He is capable of laying the body or deftly knocking the puck off an opponents stick. Despite his defensive upside, he also has an extremely accurate slapshot, which makes him ideal for quarterbacking the powerplay.
                      Comparable to: Sergei Zubov

Teams will begin opening up communication with the players agents by the end of the week as the players are expected to field offers from several teams as they all bid for their services.

DALLAS STRIKES GOLD WITH FREE AGENT SIGNING

It didn't take long for Mike Modano to get involved as the new interim General Manager of the Dallas Stars. Modano shipped out C Shawn Horcoff to Winnipeg in exchange for a 2015 5th and 6th Round Pick. The move freed up some cap room and allowed the Stars to go after some talent in Free Agency.

With a little over in 14 Million in cap space Modano began negotiations to lure in NCAA Top Prospect Drew Young. The 6'5 defender is coming off a NCAA Championship season with Union. The 20 year old American has drawn favourable comparisons to Jack Johnson and Chris Pronger. Modano said it took a bit of wooing to compel the youngster to join the Stars but the newest member of the Stars said he grew up watching him and listed him as his favourite player behind Brian Leetch. Young signed a 3 year $4.5 Million Dollar deal.

As preseason begins, word has it that the Stars are very closing to signing Russian Center, Dimitri Chernov.

SUCCESSFUL PRESEASON SPARKS OPTIMISM IN BIG D

                          October 1st, 2014
                          Associated Press NHL.com

Expectations are high after the Stars finished their preseason with a 5-0-1 record. The Stars had no shortage of scoring as they got contributions from all 4 lines as Head Coach looked for chemistry.

Newcomers Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky continued their chemistry they exhibited in Ottawa last season. Playing mostly on the second line, the pair took turns playing alongside Benn, Nichuskin and Seguin. With the successful signing of Dimitri Chernov, there is no shortage of quality Centers on the team and part of the challenge for Lindy Ruff will be to balance out the lines. The newly signed Russian spent 3 games paired alongside fellow countryman Valeri Nichuskin, but seemed to have more chemistry playing alongside Jamie Benn; where he recorded 5 points and was +6 in three games. It is unknown at this time what the line combinations will be on opening night but one will expect one of the Centers to be slotted on the wing; based on the lack of depth on the Left Wing, which drops off quite a bit after Benn.

On the Blueline it was fairly evident that there would be some healthy competition for a roster spot. The Stars had 10 Defenseman invited to Training Camp and competing for a roster spot during preseason. Of the 10, 3 (Daley, Goligoski, Gonchar) were already assured a spot in the top 6. In the end, it was Young, Dillon and Benn that earned a spot; just beating out Oleksiak and Connauton.

Between the pipes it was a battle of the backups as youngster Jack Campbell had hoped to supplant Anders Lindback. Both goaltenders played well in their 2 starts but it is expected that Lindback will get the nod.

The season kicks off in 6 days at the Stars travel to Chicago to take on the Blackhawks as the NHL regular season kicks off.
