Thank you very much, buddy
I'm really sorry I stopped making monthly previews/reviews and missed this first round series but now I'll be back to it. Thanks again for following

Wow, such a nice series! Columbus put up a good fight but we managed to close them out in six games and now we'll probably face Pitts...

...burgh?

Oh hell.

Yeah, that's it. After having a great regular season and despite being totally healthy for the playoffs, the Penguins lost in six games to the 8th seeded New York Islanders. And now we're set for a rematch against them, seeking revenge for last year's loss.

In the East two other series, both teams with the best record prevailed (even with the Leafs needing 7 games to take care of the perennial dangerous Red Wings). Now, we have an Original Six matchup that everybody remembers how it finished the last time it happened. Two series, two teams fighting for revenge. What a great time to be alive.

At the West, the other 8th seed also made it past the first round as the Blues will keep up with their fight to put their demons to sleep, but now the mighty Blackhawks await them. The Kings continue their form of "we don't care about the regular season but play our hearts out in the playoffs", but can they win the Gretzky Bowl against the 1st seeded Oilers?

It's the Stanley Cup. Anything can happen here.

2016 Playoffs - Second round

Game One

First blood! Philly grabs the win in wild Game One

Isles scored, Flyers came from behind, Isles came from behind and Flyers came from behind again and that was it, as confusing as it sounds. New York kept up with their momentum after upsetting Pittsburgh with John Tavares scoring early, but the Flyers tied still in the first period and grabbed the lead (on a Shorthanded one by Sean Couturier) early in the second. The Islanders, though, refused to go down without a fight and scored twice: once on the second frame and once on the third (with just 5 minutes on the clock) to pull up again. But Read and Schenn scored twice in less than a minute to defend home ice and give an 1-0 lead to the Flyers.

2016 Playoffs - Second Round

Game Two

Comeau's strange goal proves to be the differential as Flyers lead series 2-0.

The Islanders scored on their first shot on goal (!!), a powerplay tally by Tavares, but the Flyers came from behind once again to earn a win in Philly and jump to a 2-0 lead on the series. The home team scored both of their goals in the second frame, with B. Schenn tying it with a shorty and Comeau scoring the game winner at the end of the period. To be honest, it was more of a own goal by Hickey as he bumped into Halak while the puck wasn't totally in the goalie's control, but Comeau was credited with the goal. Now, the series shift to Long Island with the Islanders trying to avoid a dangerous 3-0 hole.

2016 Playoffs - Second Round

Game Three

Downie's breakaway goal gives commanding lead to the Flyers

Halak once again allowed a cheap goal to the Flyers but the Isles made up to it by fighting their way to a tie in regulation. In the overtime, Downie blocked a shot from the blue line and the puck slowly slided through the neutral zone with no defensemen to get it. The forward seized the opportunity to get out on a breakaway and score the game winning goal to give the Flyers the first match point of the series.

2016 Playoffs - Second Round

Game Four

A dish served cold: Flyers sweep Islanders to advance

The Flyers came hot right out of the gate, scoring two early goals and showing they weren't willing to take the series back to Philly. But the Islanders, as they did the whole series, didn't go down without a fight. They tied the game behind the play from Strome, who assisted on both of their goals, and had plenty of chances to pull ahead, but Luongo had another say about it. In the last period, the Flyers scored three unanswered times to end New York's season and advance to their first Conference Finals since the 2009-10 season.

Images of the series:

After a cluster**** at the Flyers' crease, Grabovski shot is deflected by Lee's body, denying him of a sure goal.

Hickey knocks Halak, who allows Comeau's shot in.

Lu still has it. The veteran goalie stretches to close the door on Okposo. Roberto's been a big part of the Flyers success this season

Giroux celebrates with Luongo after the Flyers closed the series in Long Island
