Arma Virumque Cano—A Carolina Hurricanes Dynasty

That's right boys, I'm back with the successor to Menin Aeide Thea. No namby-pamby videos, text and trades are what got us here and that's how we're running this thing.

Carolina Hurricanes: 5 Goals For The Season

#1: Get Eric Staal to 30 goals
Staal's the 1st-line centre and team captain; he's also a good scorer and a big body in front of the net. 30 isn't out of the question, but he'll have to stay healthy to make it to that milestone.

#2: PK% of 89.5 or higher
This is a little more far-fetched, as the defence boasts few notable names, but good goaltending and team defence should get us at least to 87%—hard work will go the rest of the way.

#3: Have a point-per-game player
It's hard, especially in the game, but it stands to reason that a dynamite first line could see a player reach 82 points. 80 would be greatly appreciated, too.

#4: Have two defensemen with a +15 or more
Good goaltending, stingy defence and some timely goals are the way to achieve this.

#5: Develop Elias Lindholm
He's our top prospect, he needs some development, he has a good base skill set and Eric Staal to mentor him.

Carolina Hurricanes: Opening Night (vs. WAS) Lines:

A. Semin—E. Staal—J. Staal
N. Gerbe—J. Tlusty—J. Skinner
P. Dwyer—J. McClement—Z. Boychuk
C. Terry—E. Lindholm—R. Nash

A. Sekera—R. Hainsey
B. Salvador—J. Harrison
T. Gleason—J. Faulk

C. Ward
A. Khudobin

'Canes Drop Opener In Close Contest With Caps
The Washington Capitals eked out a 2-1 win in Carolina on Opening Night of the NHL season. Wojtek Wolski (assisted by Nicklas Backstrom and Alexandr Ovechkin) and Jason Chimera (assisted by Brooks Laich) scored for the Capitals, while Jay McClement (assisted by Justin Faulk) scored a beauty on a breakaway for Carolina.

Staal's Hatty Propels Carolina Over Isles
Eric Staal capped off a hat-trick with 59 seconds to play in the 3rd as he one-timed a slapper past Jaroslav Halak on the powerplay. Cam Ward made 36 saves in a big win. Riley Nash and Jiri Tlusty also scored for the Canes, while Ron Hainsey, Chris Terry, and Patrick Dwyer had two assists apiece.

MVP of the Post: Eric Staal and a very nice hat-trick for the 'Canes first win of the year. Totals: 3 goals.
James Norris of the Post: Ron Hainsey with two assists in game two and solid D throughout. Totals: 2 assists.
Frank J. Selke of the Post: Chris Terry who played very well on both sides of the puck. Totals: 2 assists.

Ward, Hurricanes Shut Out Bruins
Despite being unable to capitalize on a 5-3 powerplay at the start of the 3rd period, the 'Canes worked their way to a big 3-0 win over Boston. Cam Ward made 30 saves, Alexander Semin and Jay McClement had two assists, and Zach Boychuk, Jiri Tlusty, and Patrick Dwyer all scored for the Hurricanes.

Leafs Score Four in 3rd To Crush Carolina
Cam Ward allowed 5 goals despite making 33 saves against the formerly-winless Leafs. Nazem Kadri scored, Kris Ryan scored, and Joffrey Lupul punched in two for a big first win of the year for Toronto. Jonathan Bernier made 26 big saves for the Leafs. Eric Staal scored for the Hurricanes.

MVP of the Post: Zach Boychuk, who had a goal in Boston and an assist against Toronto. Totals: 1 goal, 1 assist.
James Norris of the Post: Andrej Sekera with an assist in both games and good D throughout. Totals: 2 assists.
Frank J. Selke of the Post: Jay McClement for good end-to-end play, of course. Totals: 2 assists.

Bolts Sink Canes With Great Game From Bachman
Richard Bachman made 34 saves and stoned the Hurricanes all day, allowing a single goal to Riley Nash and nothing else despite several great Carolina chances. Steven Stamkos and Ryan Callahan both had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay.

Zibanejad's OT Goal Wins In For Sens
Mika Zibanejad popped home a rebound late in OT to give the Senators a 5-4 win at home over Carolina. Jay McClement had a goal and two assists for Carolina, while Bobby Ryan did likewise for Ottawa. Tim Gleason, Bryce Salvador, and Jeff Skinner also scored for the Hurricanes.

MVP of the Post: Jay McClement is becoming the best 3rd line center in the NHL with great penalty killing and some good point production. Totals: 1 goal, 2 assists.
James Norris of the Post: Bryce Salvador scored the first Carolina goal by a defenseman and landed some great hits. Totals: 1 goal, 1 assist.
Frank J. Selke of the Post: Elias Lindholm made great progress and even added two assists in the two games. Totals: 2 assists.
