Oilers Shutout Kings in Season Opener

The Edmonton Oilers [0-0-0] started off their season on the right foot when they defeated the Los Angeles Kings [0-0-0] by a score of 3-0 on October 8th 2015. Edmonton struck first in the second period when Eberle blasted home a one-timer off of a slick Matt Hendricks saucer pass. Antoine Roussel put the Oil up 2-0 when he managed to corral a rebound off of Jonathan Quick and tuck it in the back of the net. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins sealed the game when he iced an empty net goal from a beautiful breakout pass by Griffin Reinhart. The goaltending was the story of this game as Cam Talbot would debut in an Oilers uniform with a 29 save shutout and first star honours while Jonathan Quick would earn second star honours by stopping 30 shots. Rookie defensemen Griffin Reinhart would bring home the third star by tallying 2 assists.

It is always nice to give your team a make over. Good traders. I love Gadzic, but I understand you trading him.

Gazdic was a heart and soul guy of this team, a huge enforcer, but I couldn't pass up grabbing Roussel who I'm hoping will have more of an impact on my team.

Oilers Win Wild One in Winnipeg

The Edmonton Oilers [1-0-0] continued their winning ways early this season on October 10th 2015 when they shot down the Winnipeg Jets [0-1-0] with a 6-4 win. Cam Talbot recorded his second win in an Oilers uniform while Peter Budaj would take the loss for the Jets. The Jets managed to outshoot the Oilers 45-31 but still fell in defeat as the Oilers made the most of their chances. Connor McDavid (who earned the second star of the game) tallied three points (1 goal, 2 assists) while Nail Yakupov added his first goal of the season. The Jets went into the final minute of the third period leading 4-3 but the Edmonton Oilers somehow battled back to score three goals in the final minute to take the game 6-4. Recent acquisition Lance Bouma managed to corral a rebound off of Peter Budaj's glove in the crease and popped the puck into the wide open net to tie the game at 4 apiece with 48 seconds remaining. The fourth line would strike again with just 28 seconds left as Justin Schultz (the first star of the game) would throw a slapshot on net from the point and Matt Hendricks would deflect the puck past Budaj. The goal was questioned for a high stick, but after a long review the goal would count thus giving the Oilers the 5-4 lead. Connor McDavid would score his first National Hockey League goal by sealing the game off with an empty netter.

Scoring Summary:
First Period:
[1:55] N. Yakupov (1) {C. McDavid, T. Purcell} PP

Re: Oil Change | A New Era in Edmonton

Talbot Leads Oilers to Shootout Win

The Edmonton Oilers [2-0-0] continued gaining momentum early this season as they outlasted the struggling St. Louis Blues [0-2-0] 2-1 in a shootout. Both Cam Talbot (36 saves) and Jake Allen (30 saves) played an incredible game in what was one of the most exciting games of the week in the NHL. The third star of the game, Kyle Brodziak, managed to give the Blues the lead early in the first period when he beat Talbot off the rush over his blocker. It would take the Oilers until the second period to even the game when Nail Yakupov converted off of a Teddy Purcell rebound to finally beat Allen (the game's eventual second star). Both goaltenders made huge saves in the final frame and during overtime to push the game to a shootout. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would score the shootout winner with the first shot for the Oilers while Cam Talbot (first star selection) would stop all three St. Louis shooters to grab the W for the Oil.

Scoring Summary:
First Period:
[4:34] K. Brodziak (1) {Unassisted}
Second Period:
[4:07] N. Yakupov (2) {T. Purcell, C. Franson}
Third Period:
No Scoring
Overtime:
No Scoring
Shootout:
[First Shooter] R. Nugent-Hopkins

Three Stars
First Star:
Cam Talbot [0.93 GAA, 36 Saves, .973 SV %]
Second Star:
Jake Allen [0.92 GAA, 30 Saves, .968 SV %]
Third Star:
Kyle Brodziak [1 Goal, 1 Hit]
