Boston Bruins NHL 16 Dynasty thread

Going to do a little intro before starting. I have been a long time lurker here, and have used several dynasty websites in the past. Will be trying something different this time playing with some strict house rules; starting with a 1600 point limit for my roster (total of base overall scores for all 19 starters).
At the start of the year, i'm going to pick 16 games that I will play in the regular season, the rest will be up to the sim engine. I'll try to update after each played game.

Starting the franchise right after the end of last season, so the roster will not look the same as it does right now in real life.

Re: Boston Bruins NHL 16 Dynasty thread

The Bruins made some changes in the off-season after missing the playoffs last year, first firing general manager Peter Chiarelli and hiring former Bruin defense man Don Sweeney. Sweeney proceeded to add some size and physical players up front, trading for hometown Jimmy Hayes, and signing free agent winger Matt Beleskey.
On defense, the Bruins went back and forth with young Dougie Hamilton before finally agreeing on a long term deal. The Bruins will head into the pre-season with the following lineup:

Boston, October 11, 2015
It's always an event when the Bruins and Canadiens get together, and last night was no exception. The 0-1 Canadiens came to TD Garden last night trying to pick up their first win against a Bruins squad that won their opener over Winnipeg in a shootout on Thursday.
The teams battled back and forth for two scoreless periods before Montreal right winger Zach Kassian notched the first goal of the game early in the third period. Boston would get the game even again when Brad Marchand scored his first goal of the year top shelf past Carey Price at the 10 minute mark.
With just 26 second left in the overtime period, Marchand was locked in a battle along the boards but kicked the puck loose to defenseman Torey Krug who was able to break in alone and beat Price glove side for the game winner. Price stopped 28 shots in the losing effort, and Bruin tender Tuukka Rask had 33 saves for the win.
Three stars of the game: Rask, Marchand, and Krug

My next played game will be at TD Garden against Philadelphia on October 21, 2015.

Boston - October 22, 2015
Tuukka Rask shined with 30 saves as the Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 last night at TD Garden. The teams were featured on NBC rivalry night, with a long storied history of physical battles, especially the penalty filled affairs of the 70s between the Big Bad Bruins and the Broad Street Bullies. Last night was not a game that lived up to that hype, with only 4 penalty minutes overall, no fights, and a dominating performance from Boston from start to finish.

The Bruins struck early, with two first period goals, from Matt Beleskey and fourth line grinder Tyler Randell, picking up his first goal of his NHL career. Patrice Bergeron would strike on the power play in the 2nd period to make it three to nothing, the only tally of that frame. The Flyers would get an early third period goal from Wayne Simmonds, but never get any closer. Brad Marchand notched an empty netter in the waning minutes to seal the victory for Boston.

Three stars of the game: Marchand, Hamilton, and Rask
Bruins overall record: 5-1-0, my record 2-0-0
My next played game will be at Montreal on November 7th.

Around the league: The Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs are atop the Eastern Conference with 10 points and matching 5-1 records to start the season. Out west, the Los Angeles Kings remain undefeated in regulation at 4-0-1. Philadelphia forward Jacob Voracek is leading the NHL in scoring with 10 points in 6 games.

Eichel vs. McDavid: The Calder race so far isn't close, with 18 year old Connor McDavid scoring a point per game with a goal and 6 assists in his first 7 games. Buffalo's Jack Eichel has three points in 6 games.

Austin Matthews watch: The Arizona Coyotes with 2 points in 7 games are at the bottom of the league and the early favorite to get the first overall draft pick in next year's entry draft. The Edmonton Oilers are still in the hunt though, with just 3 points in their first 7 games; the Oilers have had an unprecedented 4 first overall picks in the last 6 seasons.

Three stars: Brad Marchand, Dougie Hamilton, and Ryan Spooner
Boston record: 8-5, my record 3-0, team morale is 78%

November 22, 2015 – Boston
The Boston Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs last night 7-3 to close the gap in the Northeast Division. Brad Marchand scored a natural hat trick as Boston broke a three game losing streak.
The Bruins jumped out early, as Marchand scored just 2 minutes into the game beating goaltender James Reimer stick side from the slot. Marchand would pot two more goals in the first period, giving Boston a 3-0 lead heading into the 2nd.
Then it was the 2nd lines time to shine, David Pastranak would score his first goal of the year, breaking a month long drought with a power play tally at 3:55, then line mate David Krejci would score just 58 seconds later, chasing Reimer from the nets.
The Leafs would close the gap in the third period, with league leading scorer James Van Riemsdyk driving home two goals, but it would be too little too late.

Three stars: Marchand, Bergeron, Van Riemsdyk
Boston Record: 10-5-4, my record: 4-0-0, team morale at 81%
My next game is December 16 against Pittsburgh

Around the league, the Montreal Canadiens lead the Eastern Conference with a 11-4-6 record and 28 points. The San Jose Sharks are atop the West with a 14-5-1 record and 29 points, the defending champion Blackhawks are just 1 point behind. Toronto winger James Van Riemsdyk leads the NHL in scoring with 12 goals and 31 points in 21 games.

Eichel vs. McDavid: Neither rooke forward is lighting up the league, Jack Eichel has 7 goals and 10 points in 20 games for Buffalo, and McDavid: 3 goals and 9 points in 20 games for Edmonton.

Auston Matthews watch: The Carolina Hurricanes sit at the bottom of the NHL with 13 points in 19 games played. Vancouver is challenging with just 15 in 21 games played.

December 16, 2015 - Boston
The Boston Bruins won the first half of a home and home against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, with a 5-2 victory. Right winger Jimmy Hayes picked up a hat trick, including an empty net tally in the waning minutes of the game.
Hayes started the scoring off at 1:06 of the game, converting a rebound off a Brad Marchand shot, the Penguins would tie it up at the end of the first period though, as Beau Bennett scored his 5th goal of the year.
Former Bruin Phil Kessel scored his 11th goal of the year just 16 seconds into the second period, but that would be the end of the offensive output from the Penguins. David Pastrnak and Hayes would score in the 2nd period, and then Tyler Randell would pick up his fourth of the year in the 3rd period to put Boston up 4-2 before Hayes would pot the empty netter.
David Krejci left the ice midway through the 2nd period with a lower body injury after a collision with David Perron, the team hasn’t released an official comment regarding his status at this time. He will likely be out for the next game against Pittsburgh tomorrow night.
Bruins record: 17-9-4, My record: 5-0-0, player morale: 83%

Around the league: The Montreal Canadiens still lead the Eastern Conference with a 17-7-8 record and 42 points. Out West the defending champion Blackhawks are 21-9-2 with 44 points. Patrick Kane leads the NHL in goals with 23, and points with 37. Steven Stamkos has closed the gap to 1 point with a hat trick last night against Toronto.

McDAVID VS EICHEL:
Connor McDavid is leading the much discussed battle amongst rookies with 12 goals and 22 points in 32 games. Jack Eichel has 11 goals and 17 points in 32 games for Buffalo.

AUSTEN MATTHEWS WATCH:
Austen Matthews remains atop the ISS ratings, and the Vancouver Canucks have expanded the gap in the race for last, with just 23 points in 32 games played.
